Sometimes when you see a finished KJLS Tallow Co. product sitting neatly on a shelf, it’s easy to forget everything that happened BEFORE it got there. 💚
You see a bar of soap.
I see tallow rendered low and slow, filtered repeatedly and prepared for skincare.
I see ingredients weighed to the gram.
Soap batter mixed, poured into molds, unmolded, cut by hand and left to cure for weeks before I’m willing to sell a single bar.
You see a bottle of lotion.
I see formulation work, test batches, temperature checks, pH checks, emulsifying oil and water phases, testing scent levels, filling bottles, cleaning equipment and making sure a water-based product is properly preserved before I ever ask you to put it on your skin.
You see a jar of cream.
I see months of experimenting with texture, percentages, ingredients and processes because “good enough” isn’t where I like to stop.
And then there are the parts that have absolutely nothing to do with making skincare. 😂
Labels. Packaging. Inventory. Product photos. Website updates. Social media. Bookkeeping. Ordering supplies. Answering messages. Loading the vehicle. Setting up markets. Breaking everything back down.
And starting over again.
KJLS Tallow Co. isn’t a factory.
There isn’t a production department, marketing department, formulation department and shipping department hidden somewhere behind the scenes.
It’s a very small business built one batch, one product and one customer at a time.
So when you choose to spend your money with KJLS, you’re supporting more than whatever happens to be inside that bottle, jar or wrapper.
You’re supporting the hours of work, testing, learning and care that went into creating it.
You’re helping me purchase ingredients for the next batch, pay for the next market and continue growing this business.
