Tomorrow’s market prep is officially DONE. 🙌😂

Everything is packed, stacked, sorted and somehow Tetris-ed into bins for the Treasure Coast Collective Markets at the Vero Beach Outlets tomorrow!

After the weather changed Saturday’s plans, I’m VERY ready to get back out there Sunday. 💚

🌾 BEYOND THE LABEL: ORGANIC OAT MILK

Oat baths have been recommended for dry, uncomfortable skin for longer than I can remember.

That long-standing tradition is one of the reasons oats became such an important part of my soapmaking from the very beginning.

Here’s something you may not know about KJLS soap:

EVERY single bar I make is made with organic oat milk.

Not just the unscented bars.

Not just a few specialty soaps.

Every. Single. Bar. 🌾🧼

And I make that oat milk myself using only:

🌾 Organic oats
💧 Distilled water

That’s it.

No gums. No stabilizers. No sweeteners. No added ingredients.

I blend the organic oats into distilled water and use that fresh oat milk as the water replacement in my soap recipe.

Why?

Because oats have a very long history of topical use, and modern research on colloidal oatmeal has helped us understand some of the reasons they’ve remained so popular in skincare.

Oats naturally contain compounds including beta-glucans, starches, lipids and avenanthramides.

Research on colloidal oatmeal has looked at moisturizing, skin-soothing and barrier-supporting effects.

And while that research is primarily on colloidal oatmeal preparations — not handmade oat milk soap — it helped reinforce why I loved the idea of incorporating oats into something we use every day.

I love the creamy lather and soft skin feel oat milk helps create, and it has become such an important part of my soap formula that I can’t imagine making KJLS soap without it.

My soaps are rinse-off products, not colloidal oatmeal treatments, so I don’t claim they treat eczema, itching or other skin conditions.

What I CAN tell you is why I choose oat milk:

A simple ingredient.

A long history of traditional use.

Interesting research behind oats themselves.

And a permanent place in every KJLS soap bar. 🌾💚

🌧️ No market Saturday — but KJLS is still available in Sebastian!

The Craft Club of Sebastian market scheduled for Saturday, October 10 has been rescheduled due to the weather.

Unfortunately, I already have another market booked on the new date, so I won’t be able to attend the rescheduled event.

BUT... if you were planning to stop by Saturday because you need to restock, you’re not out of luck. 💚

I’ll still be available for FREE local order pickup at my home in Sebastian on Saturday.

So if you’re running low on soap, lotion, magnesium cream, lip balm — or anything else you usually grab from me at the market — you can still place an order and pick it up locally without paying shipping.

No tent.
No wandering through the rain. 😂

🍂 Apparently the Soap Saver Stacks know how to get attention. 😂🧼

These got a LOT of looks at my booth this past weekend, and there’s actually a reason you don’t see them available all the time.

Each Soap Saver Stack is made from soap ends from ONE soap variety, paired with a soap saver bag so every last bit of perfectly good handmade soap can be used.

So if you choose Sandalwood, the entire stack is Sandalwood.

If you choose an unscented option, the entire stack is unscented.

No mystery mixes. 😆

But here’s what makes them naturally limited:

I only accumulate enough soap ends to make Soap Saver Stacks when I’m producing a LARGE number of soap loaves.

During normal production, there simply aren’t enough ends available to continuously make them.

Fall happens to be the perfect time because I’m making so much soap for the busy event and holiday season.

That means these aren’t something I can just restock whenever they sell out.

Once the current Soap Saver Stacks are gone, there likely won’t be more until another major soap production cycle — which means next Fall. 🍂

They’re practical.

They help me use more of every soap loaf I make.

And apparently they’re pretty darn good at stopping people at my booth too. 😂

🌿 BEYOND THE LABEL: FRANKINCENSE RESIN

Remember when I said Frankincense Resin and Frankincense Essential Oil aren’t the same thing?

This is where it gets REALLY interesting. 👀

My Frankincense Resin Infused Tallow Cream doesn’t start with a bottle of essential oil.

It starts with actual Boswellia serrata resin.

I slowly infuse that resin into organic extra virgin olive oil at a 1:5 resin-to-oil ratio before incorporating the strained infused oil into my tallow cream.

Frankincense resin is a complex natural material, and it contains compounds that are very different from the volatile aromatic compounds captured in distilled essential oil.

One group that has received a lot of scientific attention is boswellic acids — naturally occurring triterpenes found in Boswellia resin.

There has even been human research involving topical boswellic acids.

In one small randomized, double-blind study, 15 women used a cream containing a standardized 0.5% boswellic-acid preparation on one side of the face and a control cream on the other. Researchers reported improvements in measures including the appearance of fine lines and tactile roughness.

BUT — that study did NOT test my Frankincense Resin Cream.

It tested a specific standardized boswellic-acid preparation.

I have not had my infusion laboratory tested to determine exactly which resin compounds transfer into my olive oil or at what concentration, so I will not claim my cream produces the same results.

What I CAN tell you is how mine is made and why I chose the ingredient.

🌿 Actual Boswellia serrata resin
🫒 Slowly infused into organic extra virgin olive oil
🥩 Incorporated into a rich tallow cream

The finished product is deeply moisturizing and leaves dry skin feeling soft, smooth and conditioned.

The more you understand what an ingredient actually IS, the easier it becomes to understand why I chose it. 💚

And based on the response at my last event, apparently I’m not the only one fascinated by Frankincense Resin. 😂🌿

🌿 BEYOND THE LABEL: FRANKINCENSE ESSENTIAL OIL

Apparently I learned something at my last event...

You guys REALLY like Frankincense. 😂

My Frankincense Magnesium Tallow Cream got a LOT of attention, so this seems like the perfect time to talk about what the Frankincense Essential Oil I use actually is.

The oil I use is Boswellia carterii, sourced from India and hydrodistilled from frankincense resin.

Frankincense begins as aromatic resin produced by Boswellia trees. Through distillation, the lighter volatile compounds are separated from the resin to create the essential oil.

And that distinction matters.

The essential oil is NOT chemically identical to the whole resin it came from. It contains the volatile compounds responsible for that warm, earthy, resinous aroma.

🌿 The resin is one material.
💧 The distilled essential oil is another.

Researchers have studied Boswellia essential oils and their naturally occurring compounds, and the exact chemical profile can vary by species, origin and distillation.

So why do I use it in my Magnesium Tallow Cream?

First and foremost, I chose it for its beautiful aroma and the way it pairs with the cream.

There is interesting scientific research surrounding Frankincense essential oils, but research on a particular oil or isolated compound does NOT automatically prove that every finished product containing Frankincense will produce the same effects.

I’d rather tell you what an ingredient actually IS, why I chose it and what the research really shows than turn an interesting botanical into a list of miracle claims. 💚

And judging by last weekend...

I apparently need to keep plenty of Frankincense Magnesium Cream around. 😂🌿

🍂 It’s another TWO-market weekend for KJLS Tallow Co. — weather permitting! 🍂

Right now, I’m planning to be out BOTH Saturday and Sunday this weekend... but with Isaias in the Gulf and the possibility of some messy weather making its way across Florida, I’ll be keeping a close eye on updates from both event organizers.

Apparently you guys have a thing for FRANKINCENSE. 😂🌿

Two products got a LOT of attention at last weekend’s event:

✨ Frankincense Resin Infused Tallow Cream
🌿 Frankincense Magnesium Tallow Cream

And honestly... I get it.

Frankincense has that warm, earthy, resinous aroma that somehow manages to feel both grounding and luxurious at the same time.

But these are actually two very different products.

My Frankincense Resin Infused Cream starts with real Boswellia serrata resin slowly infused into organic extra virgin olive oil before being incorporated into a rich tallow-based cream.

The result is a simple, deeply moisturizing cream designed to leave dry skin feeling softer, smoother and well conditioned.

My Frankincense Magnesium Tallow Cream, on the other hand, combines magnesium chloride with my tallow-based cream formula and is scented with frankincense essential oil.

Same botanical family.

Completely different formulas.

And apparently BOTH have officially found their people. 😆

I had so many customers smelling, trying and asking about these two at the Melbourne Art & Craft Expo that I think Frankincense deserves its own little moment around here.
