THANK YOU to everyone that supported my little business over the last year! I started selling in February 2025 and have met/got reacquainted with so many friends. Thank you to those who have purchased, shared my posts, and offered kind words!
I’ve crocheted and crafted for years, but never to sell. Just fun stuff with our kids mostly.
I hit a rough patch in life at the end of 2024 and depression hit hard. Our life had taken a turn that was out of our control. Jeff had work that forced him to continue, because of Anderson I can’t simply go to work. I sat in my misery. I had fought depression and anxiety before, but this time it was taken to a new level. I simply sat on the couch staring, unless Anderson needed something. It was crippling.
Jeff gave me a couple of months and knew it was time to step in. He encouraged me to seek a professional therapist and that helped. I was able to deal with the present issue, as well as some past things. Still, I needed something to live for. He knows I love to travel; so he gave the ultimatum if I wanted to vacation I would need to earn the money to take us. He told me to buy what I needed to open a “business”. He didnt care what I did as long as my hands and mind were busy.
I headed to Hobby Lobby. Hesitant, yet hopeful. Not sure what I was looking for. I came home with a bag full of yarn, a new hook, and some stitch markers that I had no idea what they were used for. I sat with a hook in my hand and yarn on lap for a few days. Still staring into my living room through empty eyes. Finally I wove the yarn through my fingers and started stitching some simple patterns.
Our local hairstylist and my friend, Leigh Ann Amos-holt was opening her shop for local vendors. Jeff told me to get my stuff together. I offered every argument I had, but eventually gave in. I’m so glad I did. I made a little money- which was great, but it was the people that made my day. The vendors and the shoppers. It was a welcoming, fun experience that shifted my thinking. It gave me purpose. And so, Made In The Mountains got its start.
I still fight my thoughts at times, but I’m in a much better place. I won’t say this past year was an easy one. I don’t wish to relive it, but I’m thankful for those who have stood by me. My hope for the coming year is to continue to grow and create.
If you ever find yourself in a dark place- I’m here. I will sit by you quietly, talk about the past or the future, crochet with you, or listen to your story. You are loved and needed.
