This was a customer service call for a KGRO 43" riding mower.

This was my first time servicing a KGRO, which was manufactured for Kmart for sale in the 90's by MTD.

I was called for sputtering and popping coming from the mower.

Upon my arrival, I could not even get this meticulously kept mower to start. So I went through the fuel system, where I found no issues at all. Then I moved to the spark plug, this is where the culprit seem to be. Carbon and oil buildup on the spark plug preventing the spark plug from dominus job and burning the fuel in the cylinder. Replace the spark plug and fired up the mower immediately without issue.

I was called back later on for a separate issue from the homeowner who was finally able to start it for the first time this season. The belted seemingly fallen off. Upon my arrival the belt was cracked and in terrible condition. But the real culprit was the deck cable which rode in the same adjustable position for probably 30 plus years. It wore through the metal elongating the hole and eventually allowing the spring to break through. As seen in the picture I was able to place the deck cable into a different adjustable position and get the mower in working condition again.

This Toro recycler was just up the block from me at the curb.

Both the brake bail cable and the self propelled cable were broken. Replaced both cables, changed the air filter, sharpened the blade and changed the oil. All works as it should.

It's currently for sale as of this post 8/1/26.

This mower was picked from the curb, thanks to a friend who informed me it was there.

Not really sure why it was out with other metals for scrap... But started right up.

Changed the air filter and oil and sold in less than 3 hours after posting.

Another mower kept out of the landfill!

Another mower saved from the scrap heap.

Craftsman 21 inch push mower. Picked from the curb and serviced with new plug, air filter and oil change. Sold for a reasonable $100.
