One of our Mission Marketplace vendors this year will be Thistle Farms, a nonprofit social enterprise dedicated to helping women survivors recover and heal from prostitution, trafficking, and addiction. They do this by providing a safe place to live, a meaningful job, and a lifelong sisterhood of support. They make body and home products to support their mission. You can learn more about them here: https://thistlefarms.org

Artisan Artforms: Metal Chimes
https://shopmira.com/pages/artisan-artforms-metal-chimes

These metal chimes are made by a single family in the town of Behat in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh, India. Male members over the age of 18 in the family such as husbands, uncles, sons and nephews are all part of chime making. They work out of an old, converted house which is now their workshop in the remote village.

The metal chimes start out as flat sheets of scrap metal. Artisans buy the scrap metal in bulk to use for chimes and other metal products. The sheets are measured to the size of each chime and outlined to be cut or stamped into the correct chime design. The men use simple machines and handheld tools to form each chime. Once the chimes are cut and the basic shape is formed, they are washed to remove any rust or dirt and to give the metal a clean surface for the color or paint to stick to. They are painted and sent to be finished.

The wives, daughters, and sisters of the men who create the chimes finish each piece with colorful beads and small bells to give them beautiful sound. This family business is supported by your purchases of their chimes!

Vendor Highlight Moment: WorldFinds

WorldFinds has been woman-owned and woman-powered since our beginnings in 2001. Through our commitment to ethical practices and expressive styles, we create products that transform the lives of our artisan partners and those who wear our designs. You’ll find our jewelry and accessories in over a thousand retail locations across the United States and beyond, from museum stores and clothing boutiques to gift shops and galleries. Our products have created work for over 1,000 artisans in communities across the globe. So, while our designs are always evolving, one thing never will: our mission to empower women through fair trade.

KANTHA JEWELRY
The makers of your vibrant Kantha jewelry utilize materials from within their own community, including repurposed cotton textiles and salvaged wood. Our fair trade partnerships uplift
artisan communities and provide stability for families through economic empowerment and independence, while our Girls Education Fund provides additional support for the daughters of our artisan partners, to ensure they have many opportunities for a bright future.

Vendor Highlight Moment: Women's Bean Project
Back in 1989, our founder, Jossy Eyre, was volunteering at a daytime women’s shelter in Denver, CO. She realized that while the shelter kept the women safe, it could not help them make lasting changes in their lives. To help the women achieve independence and self-sufficiency, she needed to provide an opportunity to experience the dignity of work by learning how to get – and keep – a job. She invested $500 of her own money and put two women to work; the start of the social enterprise we are today.
