There’s something I wish more people understood about buying handmade:

You’re not just buying an object.

You’re supporting the person who imagined it, learned the skill to create it, spent the hours making it, invested in the materials, paid for the booth, packed the car, showed up, and put a piece of their creativity out into the world.

That deserves to be valued. 🤎

Supporting handmade doesn’t have to mean buying something every time you see an artist. Sometimes it’s following their work. Sharing their post. Telling a friend. Stopping at their booth. Asking about their process. And when you are ready to purchase, choosing something made by an independent artist is a pretty incredible way to spend your money.

Because there’s a difference between inspired by and copied from.

Artists spend years developing their own voice, style, techniques and ideas. Please let artists keep their ideas as their own. Be inspired by the creativity around you, but make room for your own creativity to become something original.

And there’s also a difference between supporting an artist and supporting a resale business at an event specifically created to showcase makers.

When you choose the handmade piece, you’re choosing the person behind it.

You’re choosing their time.
Their skill.
Their creativity.
Their risk.
Their livelihood.

Big-box stores will always be there.

Resellers will always be there.

But the artist standing across the table from you? That person is the one you have the opportunity to support directly.

So the next time you’re at an art market, maker event or small business pop-up, look a little closer.

Ask who made it.

Ask how it was made.

And if you love it, take a piece of that artist’s work home with you.

Because handmade isn’t just something you buy.
It’s something you choose to believe is worth making. ✨

🌿✨ SEPTEMBER WITH RISABUG GOODS ✨🌿

September is bringing lots of opportunities to shop small, shop local, and support handmade! 🦋

If you’ve been wanting to see my work in person, here’s where you can find me this month:

📅 SEPTEMBER 18
Third Friday Art Walk
5–9 PM • Strawberry Hill, KCKS

📅 SEPTEMBER 19
Old Shawnee Town Fair
9 AM–4 PM • Shawnee Town

📅 SEPTEMBER 25 & 26
Terror on the Plains Horror Festival 👻
Gates open at 5 PM

But here’s the thing… you don’t have to wait for a market to shop Risabug Goods. 🥹💚

My handmade pieces are also sitting on shelves right now at four local storefronts:

🌱 Roots KC Plant Shop
Westside • 818 W. 17th St., KCMO
River Market • 412 Delaware St., Ste. C

🌿 West Bottoms Plant Co
1501 W. 12th St., KCMO

🪴 Mass Street Plant Co
6 E. 7th St., Lawrence, KS

Shopping handmade through a local storefront is still supporting a small artist. ❤️ It means your dollars are helping a maker like me keep creating, while also supporting the independent businesses that choose to give local artists space on their shelves.

So this month, whether you catch me at a market or wander into one of these shops, thank you for choosing handmade. Every purchase, share, tag, visit, and “hey, I saw your stuff!” means more than you know. 🦋

Come find something made with my two hands and a whole lot of love. ✨

Because your jewelry should have a personality too. 🖤🌿

Handmade macramé chokers for the ones who like their accessories a little weird, a little wild, and definitely not boring.

Made by hand, one knot at a time. ✨

When the saxophones keep getting louder

Well, we have a flat and a flat spare 😭 so Paola we will be late.

Anyone near Old KC Road and west 251st street?

Practical Magic? I prefer impractical macramé. 🌙✨
But apparently I can make the moon catch the light. 🧶🔮

There will be no geode tube tops, Paola. 😭

Total disclaimer: I use Amazon, yup. Sue me. As a vendor and small business, it gets me sale bags, zip ties and 5-foot double hook bungee cords here lighting fast and with my ADHD (hyper in the brain), I forget and need these things fast. But Amazon an ice dyer will always know when you are a liar about your product labels. At 95% cotton, these tube robs should have absorbed the dyes lovely..but seeing what was happening, I played it dumb at first and 🥁 🥁 added more dye 😭

Hey Amazon you owe me like over $200 and three days of my time back. 😠 🖕🏼

I found a couple lotus frames hidden in my art room yesterday along with some Knotitude Macrame cord.

Made an afternoon of it yesterday. Check my stories for how these pieces turned out. 🤩 They’ll be available this weekend Paola Roots Festival

Third Friday Art Walk Recap!!

Though it rained exactly at start time, the wonderful event volunteers went booth to booth to warn everyone. This is so thoughtful because some of us get TOTAL tunnel vision while setting up. 😂 I always feel like the artists and makers are really cared for when popping up with Third Friday Art Walk

My new hippie/nomadic chokers absolutely stole the evening — half my sales!! So, guess what I’ll be making more of this week for Paola Roots Festival next weekend. 👀

The most lovely stranger (are we strangers anymore?!) randomly gave me a quarter of the flowers she had just purchased, so Michael made me a makeshift vase. Lol. 🥹🌸

We were definitely the last vendors on the street last night. I’m so glad folks came out after the rain because the time and effort that goes into these events can sometimes outweigh the sales. 🙃

And as we get later into the season, I’m getting a little tired of the polished posts and whatnot. You might just get raw material for the remainder of the season. 🤣

Honestly, I kinda like it better that way anyway.
