I didn’t get a great picture of this table once it was delivered, but here is the build start to finish. One of my favorite table builds to date.

So when you get new toys, you tend to start playing with them. I finished my first piece through the drum sander yesterday in time for Bay to 30A’s annual Christmas party. I figured I already have a desk and conference table in the new office what would a console table hurt ? This was made as a gift to my Broker and friend Chris. You can give me a shout to see what I can make for you and your office or home, or see these pieces in person by closing a deal with me 😉 Joseph Hartwell, Realtor Bay to 30A Realty -Chris Jennings Broker/Owner

As most of you know we lost Kevin after 11yrs and our home and Hearts felt empty. Becca and I discussed in depth the pros and cons of another dog and we are happy to introduce our newest shop dog “Cash Lee Hartwell” after Johnny Cash, and my best friend and other Father figure, Lee. Our home and shop just got a lot louder and our hearts while hurting still are a little more full.

This is a story all about how my life got flipped, turned upside down, I’d like to take a minute just sit right there and I’ll tell you how I became guy doing woodworking and repair.lol this desk started it’s journey over 17 months ago when I picked it up as a slab in Kentucky from Mrs. Robin my friend and wood supplier. It was initially going to be the conference table for Bay to 30A but after some review it just wasn’t wide enough. So I did what any guy would do who is strapped for space, I took a chainsaw and cut it in half and had it flattened. This slab wasn’t anything special to me at first, it was just a old maple slab that was at the bottom of a pile on my back burner for a few months until I decided I wanted to make a desk for my wife and one for my father in law. I used left over epoxy from the desk I built for Chris Jennings to stabilize the cracks, and started sanding it in between the other tables I was working on at the time, and then it was forgotten about again as the conference table project started. I pulled this desk back out after I delivered Chris’s desk and conference table the last trip I was home, and for shots and giggles I wiped it down with some denatured alcohol to see some color, and it popped! This maple slab had quilting, it had light burling, and it was full of red Hughes, all of a sudden it wasn’t just some old bottom of the pile maple slab. I bought another beautiful maple burl cookie to turn into a printer stand from my friend at Peeples exotic wood and finished the cracks in it with crushed powdered turquoise I bought for another upcoming project. This desk is a gift to my wife for the support and patience she’s shown to me while I’ve stressed, traveled for wood, hours spent sanding instead of spent with her, and the annoyance she’s gone through with my attitude when things just are not going how they are suppose to with epoxy. While I wish I could say she has the most beautiful desk I’ve built, that is honestly going to be my father in laws desk. A sneak peak, it’s going to have a small black river with spent brass, and gun parts covered with clear epoxy for his gun repair and restoration he’s been working on. If you like this desk one can be made just like it for your home or office I’d love to earn your buisness and strive to meet every expectation along the way.

I finally got the first coat of finish on Becca Hartwell office desk. This is a light quilted maple slab with charcoal black epoxy and a Danish hand rubbed oil finish. 🥴 that’s a mouthful haha. I have the printer stand finishing as well and it’s made of a spalted maple burl round with true crushed powdered turquoise for the epoxy pigment and the same finish. All that’s left is to let it dry, light sand, and apply the finish wax.
