— Brand History Drop!

✨ Express ✨
Founded: 1980

Express was born inside the Limited empire — founder Les Wexner launched it in 1980 as a French-inspired fast fashion concept aimed squarely at young women who wanted trendy European styles at American mall prices. The original name? Limited Express. The "Limited" was dropped as the brand found its own identity.

Through the 80s and 90s, Express was THE destination for going-out clothes. Stretch blazers, bodycon dresses, silky button-downs — the brand had its finger on the pulse of what young professional women wanted to wear when they meant business and when they meant fun.

In the 2000s, Express Men launched and brought the same sleek, fashion-forward energy to menswear. The brand eventually spun off completely from Limited Brands in 2007 and has been operating independently since.

Express pieces from the 80s and 90s thrift beautifully — the fabrics and cuts hold up and feel very current again right now.

— Brand History Drop!

✨ Banana Republic ✨
Founded: 1978

Banana Republic's origin story is one of the most fascinating in American retail. Mel and Patricia Ziegler founded it in 1978 as a surplus and travel clothing store with a very specific aesthetic: safari and expedition wear. The original stores were like theatrical sets — with jeeps hanging from the ceilings, pith helmets on mannequins, and dramatic murals of jungle scenes on the walls.

They wrote whimsical, novelistic catalog descriptions for every product — turning a pair of cotton pants into an adventure story. It was unlike anything else in retail at the time.

Gap Inc. acquired Banana Republic in 1983 and gradually shifted it from adventure outfitter to upscale work and casual wear. The safari roots faded, but the quality positioning remained. Today vintage pieces from the original safari-era Banana Republic — with the actual safari tags and styling — are legitimately collectible.

Modern BR pieces thrift beautifully too. The fabrics and tailoring punch well above the price point.

Founded: 2002

Cabi — short for Carol Anderson by Invitation — was founded by designer Carol Anderson and entrepreneur Kimbra Anderson in 2002 with a model that flipped the traditional fashion retail world on its head.

Instead of department stores or boutiques, Cabi sells exclusively through independent stylists who host in-home "Fashion Experience" shows for groups of friends. The idea was to bring the fitting room to the living room — creating a social, low-pressure way for women to try clothes on real bodies, with real conversations happening around them.

The clothes themselves lean toward elevated, versatile separates — the kind of pieces that mix well across a whole wardrobe rather than standing alone. Neutral palettes, quality fabrics, thoughtful construction. Designed to be worn a hundred ways.
