— Brand History Drop!

✨ Juicy Couture ✨
Founded: 1997

Juicy Couture was born in a Los Angeles apartment when best friends Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor started a maternity clothing line called Travis Jeans. They pivoted, rebranded, and in 1997 launched Juicy Couture — a name chosen specifically because it sounded both luxurious and a little ridiculous. That tension was the whole point.

The velour tracksuit became their signature — and for about five years in the early 2000s, it was everywhere. Paris Hilton wore it. Britney Spears wore it. Madonna wore it. Every celebrity photographed leaving a gym or an airport seemed to be in a Juicy zip-up with something cheeky written across the backside.

What made Juicy brilliant was the price point — their pieces were aspirational but not unattainable. A teenager could save up for a Juicy hoodie. That accessibility combined with the celebrity endorsement machine created a cultural phenomenon that defined an entire era of American fashion.

Liz Claiborne Inc. acquired the brand in 2003 for $53 million. The velour moment faded, but the nostalgia never did — and right now, Y2K fashion is having its biggest revival yet.

— Brand History Drop!

✨ Brooks Brothers ✨
Founded: 1818

Brooks Brothers is the oldest clothing retailer in America — older than the Civil War, older than most U.S. states. They dressed Abraham Lincoln (he was wearing a Brooks Brothers coat the night he was shot) and nearly every president since.

They invented the button-down collar in 1896, inspired by polo players who pinned their collars down to keep them from flapping during matches.

Vintage Brooks Brothers at a thrift store? That is American history on a hanger.

✨ Club Monaco ✨
Founded: 1985

Club Monaco was founded in Toronto, Canada in 1985 by Joe Mimran — the same designer who would later create Joe Fresh. From the very beginning, the brand had a clear and unwavering identity: elevated minimalism. Clean lines, neutral palettes, quality fabrics, and a restrained sophistication that felt European without being European.

The concept was simple and radical at the same time — give people the kind of polished, thoughtfully designed basics that used to cost a fortune, at a price that felt accessible. No loud logos. No seasonal gimmicks. Just beautifully made clothes that worked across a whole wardrobe.

Ralph Lauren acquired Club Monaco in 1999, which gave the brand significantly more resources to expand while largely preserving its aesthetic identity — a rare outcome in fashion acquisitions. The brand grew internationally while maintaining the quiet, refined sensibility that built its loyal following.

Club Monaco pieces are a genuinely underappreciated thrift find. The fabrics are exceptional — cashmere blends, quality cottons, fine wools — and the minimalist aesthetic means pieces never really look dated. If you see the CM label, pick it up.
