I’ve got to be honest. Cotton yarn is usually not my thing. The worsted weight is usually pretty stiff and I find it hard on my hands when I crochet. That fact hasn’t changed, but I am loving how crisp these stitches look. Maybe I will be revisiting cotton for my amigurumi, too.

I use this method to change my yarn without tying knots. I change colors in my crochet in this way as well as just adding yarn if I’ve run out mid project. I begin my crochet stitch as usual, but before I finish the last part of the stitch, I drop the working yarn and put the new yarn on my hook to finish the stitch. Then I will crochet over the tails of the yarn to secure it. How do you change yarn?

Welcome to my Candy Corn Bag era! I’ve been crocheting a few variations of this small purse and I’m finally satisfied with everything. I’m finalizing the pattern and having it tested. There are different methods for different applications. Crocheting 2 together will decrease the stitch count, but adds a little height to the stitch. Great for blankets, but creates holes in plushies. The invisible decrease uses less yarn and adds less height resulting in a shorter and tighter stitch, which is more desirable when making amigurumi.

And if there are still holes, try going down a hook size (even if it is just for the decrease stitches).

A tool I use often in my crochet is a fidget popper. I use this to count my rows when I’m repeating things. Once I’ve replaced my stitch marker for the next row, I pop a bubble down. This way I know how many rows I have completed without stopping to count. I have a larger one that I use for bigger projects that I’ve written numbers on the bubbles. And yes, I use the Halloween popper year round.

August round up! I finished 8 projects during 4 of which were WIPs that I finally finished! My kids keep me very busy during the summer and I don’t have a ton of time to crochet, so finishing 8 projects, even if they were small, is a big deal.

I don’t know why I’m like this. 🤣 I always think I leave enough yarn to weave it back in to my finished crochet projects, but alas, my yarn is too short. So if you’re like me, here’s a hack. But try to leave a longer tail.
