I asked myself this the other day... What is the story that my art tells? I realized that it's not so much the product that tells the story as the practice. I have a Master’s degree, a job, a beautiful family, a home and even a dog (2 actually). I’ve done all the things society told me I should. And while these things do bring me happiness, pride and a sense of purpose, I’m still somehow left questioning my own value in the quiet spaces of life. Transitioning from one town to the next, trying to make new friends, staying home postpartum… It’s tempting to constantly launch yourself into the next “thing”, the next ladder, the next mountain, the next destination. But after a while you end up feeling depleted and exhausted. Making art has taught me how to be present and find gratitude around me. Making art is my practice in rooting myself and acknowledging the inherent value of just living and existing.
If this resonates with you at all then this post is for you. May you find something beautiful today that brings you peace and gratitude.
