Sometimes the best part about creating a new piece, is the hunt for what will bring it all together. "Fair Winds" was one of those projects. Deciding to upcycle used hardback books was a real mind bender for me. The fact that I was going to render a book into a work of art weighed heavy on me. That this book would never again be curled up with to devour and savor every word written....
In the end the the artwork prevailed, and now I am utterly in love with the transformation. The amount of time and thought that goes into each one of these is massive. From the search for the perfect book to the treasures that will eventually adorn it. By far the most amazing part is the task of removing the pages. This is a time consuming process because taking too many or too few can ruin the entire process, but reading each of the words visible through the book's window, now there is the gift within. Finding that perfect page that although missing part of the text, is still able to convey a message.
