Join us on the afternoon of Sunday, August 2 to meet author Amanda Clark and illustrator Audrey Westcott ! You’ll be able to take home an autographed copy of their new children’s book, Finding Forest Park, an interactive seek-and-find that brings St. Louis’s favorite green space to life for explorers ages three to seven.

Readers will experience all kinds of moments from the park’s history, from the 1904 World’s Fair to modern-day trips to the zoo. Along the way, children will hunt for objects as they learn how one of America’s great city parks took shape. Playful illustrations combine different eras with different seasons, and fun facts turn history into a game of discovery. Finding Forest Park is a dynamic mix of seek-and-find, picture book, and history adventure that bridges generations by introducing kids to the park’s beloved traditions and celebrating all there is to see and do.

Picture if you will the most on-brand thing we at Leviathan Bookstore could possibly do. Fixed it in your mind? Good. What did you conjure up? Was it hosting an event in honor of the Greatest American Novel, Moby-Dick, to celebrate its 175th anniversary? Was that event taking place on Herman Melville’s actual birthday? Because that’s what’s happening.

Herman Melville’s Moby-Dick has a monumental reputation. Less well known are the novel’s unexpectedly weird, funny, tantalizing, messy, and wondrous moments. The book asks many questions: What higher (or lower) powers are at play in the world? How do we come to knowledge? What do humans owe one another? What does a “heart-stricken moose” sound like? Is that really how s***m whales got their name?

Listen in as scholars Hester Blum and Brian Yothers converse about this Great(est?) American Novel and make a case for Herman Melville as the most important contemporary writer, even on his 207th birthday. This event welcomes first-time Melville readers and Moby-Dick obsessives alike, and discussion will range from the novel’s most thunderous, epic heights to its quirkiest, crudest jokes.

Join Leviathan Bookstore and for the silliest, smartest boozy book fair there’s ever been! On Monday, June 8 we’ll all raise a glass in honor of Christopher Marlowe, the original Elizabethan bad boy. Poet, playwright, and spy, his radical life and art launched a literary movement that’s lasted more than 400 years. Actors will declaim his verse, musicians will sing his songs, and the rest of us will down specialty cocktails courtesy of Truckey. Learn more about Marlowe’s remarkable story so we can properly toast his eternal memory and the eternal damnation of his foul murderers!
