BREAKING: 400 white nationalists march through D.C. waving Confederate flags on July 4th
While American families gathered for cookouts and fireworks, roughly 400 masked members of the white nationalist group Patriot Front marched through the streets of the nation’s capital on Independence Day, waving Confederate flags through the same city where Trump sits in the White House.
The group did not hide what the day meant to them. A streamer marching alongside the group described the event as a “total A***n victory.” That is not a dog whistle. That is the message, said out loud, on camera, in Washington, D.C., on the Fourth of July.
Patriot Front is not a fringe curiosity. The group was born out of the deadly 2017 Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, and the Southern Poverty Law Center describes it as an organization pushing a fascist agenda. According to internal documents reported by USA Today, the group has more than 540 members across every state except Hawaii and has roughly doubled in size every year, with its leader Thomas Rousseau calling for 600 members by July 4, 2026.
They picked this date on purpose. They picked this city on purpose. And they marched with Confederate flags, the banner of men who took up arms against the United States, on the birthday of the United States.
This is what Trump’s America looks like. When the White House spends years winking at extremists, calling them fine people, and pardoning the January 6th mob, groups like this stop hiding in the shadows. They put on uniforms, they grow their numbers, and they march down the middle of the capital in broad daylight.
The rest of America needs to see it, name it, and reject it. Because the men behind those masks are counting on the country looking away.
