Tomorrow, young Anglicans will gather at Heart Ridge Retreat Center in the mountains of South Carolina for St. Bede’s Youth Camp.

For one week, phones and electronics are set aside as campers devote themselves to prayer, worship, fellowship, learning, and adventure.

The rhythm of camp is intentionally Christian from beginning to end. Each day begins with Morning Prayer and Holy Communion, followed by religious education classes taught by APA clergy, camp crafts, and time spent outdoors. Afternoons bring canoeing, fishing, swimming, hiking, and other adventures, while evenings conclude with fellowship, group activities, and Compline before bed.

Throughout the week, campers also have opportunities for spiritual direction, conversation with priests and deacons, and the Sacrament of Penance.

Nestled in the mountains near Sunset, South Carolina, Heart Ridge Retreat Center provides a beautiful setting for young Christians to grow in faith, friendship, and the knowledge of God.

In a culture increasingly shaped by screens and distraction, St. Bede’s offers something different: a week ordered around God, prayer, community, and the beauty of His creation.

Please join us in praying for the campers, clergy, counselors, and staff as camp begins.

On Witsun Monday, the Church continues to reflect on the great gift of Pentecost.

The descent of the Holy Ghost was not only a moment of divine power—it was the beginning of the Church’s living witness in the world.

The same Spirit who strengthened the Apostles continues to guide the Church in truth, sanctify the faithful, and kindle the life of grace within us.

May we pray today for renewed humility, courage, and steadfastness as we seek to walk faithfully in the life of Christ and His Church.

Come, Holy Ghost, fill the hearts of thy faithful people.

In the midst of coastal Southern California, St. Matthew’s Church & School in Newport Beach is quietly preserving and building a deeply rooted Christian community.

A parish of the Anglican Catholic Church within the Diocese of the Holy Trinity, St. Matthew’s is led by Bishop Stephen Scarlett, Bishop Ordinary and Rector, together with Fr. Hayden Butler, Associate Rector.

Here, the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is offered with reverence, children are formed through classical Christian education, and parish life extends well beyond Sunday morning.

One especially beautiful expression of this life together is Tuesday Night Bible Study, led by Fr. Hayden Butler each Tuesday at 6 PM in the St. Barnabas Pavilion:
📖 potluck dinner
📖 fellowship
📖 prayer
📖 study of Holy Scripture

On the third Tuesday of each month, the parish also offers a Mass for Healing at 6 PM before the evening gathering.

In a culture increasingly marked by isolation and instability, places like St. Matthew’s remind us that the life of the Church is not merely historical—it is living, sacramental, and communal.

The Oxford Movement sought to recover something many believed the Church of England had neglected:
the continuity of the Church Catholic,
the sacramental life,
and the ancient traditions of Christian worship.

Its influence can still be seen today in:
🕯️ liturgy
🕯️ vestments
🕯️ church architecture
🕯️ devotion to the Sacraments
🕯️ renewed interest in the Fathers and the ancient Church

Yet Anglicans continue to debate its legacy and its long-term effects.

Did the Oxford Movement help recover Anglican identity?

The Sunday after Ascension is a quiet and waiting Sunday.

Christ has ascended in glory.
The Apostles have returned to Jerusalem.
And now the Church waits in prayer for the coming of the Holy Ghost at Pentecost.

It is a fitting image of the Christian life itself:
waiting faithfully,
continuing steadfastly,
and looking with hope toward the promises of God.

The ancient Church has long marked these days not with anxiety or haste, but with prayer, reverence, and expectation.

“Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.” — Hebrews 4:14

As the Church prepares for Pentecost, may we also prepare our hearts:
through prayer,
through repentance,
through the Daily Office,
and through faithful attendance at the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.

Forty days after His Resurrection, our Lord Jesus Christ ascended into heaven in glory.

The Ascension is not Christ abandoning His Church, but Christ reigning for her.

He ascends as:
🕊️ our King
🕊️ our High Priest
🕊️ our Advocate before the Father

“And while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.” — Acts 1:9

Ascension Day has long been observed by the Church with festal Masses, white vestments, hymns of triumph, and prayers that our hearts may likewise “thither ascend.”

In the Ascension, we are reminded that the Christian life is not merely about earthly survival, but about union with Christ and the life of the world to come.

🕯️ “Grant, we beseech thee, Almighty God, that like as we do believe thy only-begotten Son our Lord Jesus Christ to have ascended into the heavens; so we may also in heart and mind thither ascend…”

📖 How is Ascension Day observed in your parish?

The ancient Church has always been more than isolated parishes.

It is a fellowship — clergy and laity together — praying, studying, building, and laboring side by side for the life of the Church Catholic.

Our Vigil Fire WhatsApp group exists to help bring faithful Anglicans and seekers together across jurisdictions, dioceses, and distances for thoughtful conversation rooted in Scripture, Sacrament, and tradition.

Inside the group, members are able to:
🕯️ Participate in ongoing discussions on theology, liturgy, parish life, and the future of the Continuum
📚 Share ideas and feedback directly related to Vigil Fire publications and projects
☕ Fellowship with clergy, writers, editors, and committee churchmen involved in the work behind the scenes
⛪ Connect with others who are seeking depth, reverence, and continuity in the ancient faith

This is not simply an announcement channel or promotional page.

It is a place for conversation, encouragement, and the strengthening of ties within the wider Anglican Catholic world.

Inside St. James Anglican Cathedral in Liberty, Missouri, you’ll find something unexpected:

☕ Holy Grounds Coffee Shoppe

Part café, part gathering place, Holy Grounds is the kind of spot where good coffee, conversation, and the life of the Church meet naturally.

Whether you stop in for a latte, a quiet moment of study, or conversation with friends after Mass, the atmosphere reflects something increasingly rare—warm hospitality rooted in the ancient Christian faith.

And if you spend enough time there, there’s always the possibility you may run into Bishop Leo Michael himself over coffee.

On May 6th, the Church remembers St. John before the Latin Gate.

According to ancient tradition, the Apostle was brought before the authorities in Rome and cast into a cauldron of boiling oil—yet he emerged unharmed.

The miracle is not only that he endured,
but that the light he bore could not be extinguished.

“The light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.”

The faith we have received is not new.
It is the same witness—kept, carried, and handed down
through trial, through time, and through the life of the Church.

🕯️ Save this for reflection.
