A love letter to Tacoma 🥰❤️
Today, hundreds of people walked through the doors of Shelf Indulgence to celebrate Bookstore Romance Day.
The first people started lining up more than three hours before we opened.
THREE HOURS.
And as I watched that line grow down 6th Ave, I kept thinking about how much this city has changed my life.
Today we had a Book Boyfriend Bracket that people took very seriously, friendship bracelets being made across the table, readers leaving recommendations for complete strangers, and a Love Letters to Tacoma wall slowly filling with little notes about why people love this place.
And somewhere between reading those notes and looking around at a bookstore absolutely packed with people, I realized this entire day felt like my own love letter to Tacoma.
Because Tacoma quite literally saved my life.
I came here needing somewhere to belong. Somewhere to start over. Somewhere that could eventually feel like home. And somehow, this city gave me that..and then gave me so much more.
It gave me a community that showed up before the sun had even properly started the day just to stand outside a little romance bookstore.
It gave me people who believe in what we’re building here.
It gave me friendships, purpose, ridiculous ideas that somehow turn into real events, and a place where I get to watch strangers become friends over books. Shelf Indulgence exists because Tacoma gave me the courage to build it.
So while hundreds of you left little love letters to Tacoma on our wall today, this one is mine.
Thank you, Tacoma.
For showing up. For loving this weird little bookstore as fiercely as you do.
For giving me a home.
And, in more ways than I could ever fit into an Facebook caption, for saving my life.
I hope Shelf Indulgence can spend a very, very long time returning the favor.
