Spun a few records today. Started the day with the Ramones and followed that up with Codeine. That was fun. But I picked this gem from 1988 for Tony’s Weekend Wax selection this week. With the passing of Frank Beard this past week it only seems appropriate to spin some ZZ Top this weekend. He and Dusty were one hell of a rhythm section. Frank was instrumental in turning Blues into Boogie Rock. Thanks for the grooves Frank. This weeks Tony’s Weekend Wax selection is really anything by ZZ Top but right now I’m spinning Tres Hombres.

It’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve done a Tony’s Weekend Wax post. Life got a bit busy and I’ve been away the past two weekends. But I am home this weekend and as luck would have it one of my favorite bands is playing Tacoma. Tonight I get to see Interpol at an outdoor venue about 5 minutes from my house. So in anticipation of tonight I’ll be spinning Interpol throughout the day today. This weeks Tony’s Weekend Wax selection is Interpol ~ Antics.

This album just had its 44 year anniversary. I had this tape as a kid. I played it so much that after a while it just made a hissing sound. I totally wore it out. I thought it would be fun to give it a listen because surely I have it on vinyl, right? Nope. So I went out and bought a copy today. This weeks Tony’s Weekend Wax selection is Judas Priest’s 1982 album Screaming For Vengeance.

I love how music is a Time Machine. You can hear a song and you’re instantly transported back to a place and time. Spring 1991 I picked up this album based off of the lead single Kill Your Television. I saw them live later that year at DV8 or Club Oz or whatever it was called at the time and they were fantastic. As soon as the needle dropped on this one I’m transported right back to 1991 with a smile on my face. This weeks Tony’s Weekend Wax selection is Ned’s Atomic Dustbin ~ God Fodder

Saturday morning jamz. Peak Jimi Hendrix for me. Released in March 1970 this live album from New Years Eve 69’ and New Year’s Day 70’ from Band of Gypsies is all killer and no filler. I love a good collaboration. In October of 1999 the Black Crowes and Jimmy Page played a series of shows together that are now (in some circles) legendary. Black Crowes tunes, Led Zeppelin tunes; just fantastic shows all around. The live album of the LA shows was released in 2000, and a reissue box set recently came out. So fun to crank this one up. Saw some pics this week of friends seeing Joe Jackson in concert. I always miss when he’s in town. I decided to pull out his 1979 debut Look Sharp and give it a spin. Always a good listen and reminder that a lot of the 80’s sound and production was borrowed from this album (in my opinion). This weeks Tony’s Weekend Wax selection Joe Jackson ~ Look Sharp
