Pottery by Orion is a small business aimed at selling unique and quality handmade pottery at a reasonable price. Available online, on site or by custom order.

Looking back, I should have expected to wind up in pottery. From a young age, my parents were introducing me to different art mediums and encouraging me to find a creative outlet. Furthermore, our close friends and neighbors Lynn and John Hume work in clay as well, running the Sligo Creek Tile Company from their basement. In addition, as a child my mother enrolled me in a pottery camp taught by ex

perienced potter Maija Hay. The large studio, combined with Maija's assistance, was enough to make any child want to explore clay on a deeper level. Once I entered high school, I decided to enroll in ceramics. The class, taught by Jonathan Verock at Montgomery Blair High School, nurtured my interest, turning it into ambition. I stayed with the class throughout high school, and the instruction as well as it's resources are chiefly responsible for my current level of output and skill. During the summer of 2010, instead of taking a hiatus from clay, I decided to enroll in an outside studio. After much searching, the excessive resources and talent at Langley Park Community Center lured me for not only the summer, but the next school year as well, where esteemed potter Mary Giammatteo helped me hone my skills to produce quality pottery. Currently, the majority of my work is made at the studio in Langley Park. I have sold my work in many sales, including the Takoma Park Street festival, from 2010 to 2012. Pottery by Orion pieces are one hundred percent dishwasher and microwave safe, and come in a wide array of colors, patterns and styles. All pieces are made by 20 year old potter Orion McCarthy, located in Takoma Park, Maryland. If you see a piece or glaze pattern you like but the piece is sold or not specific to your request, please feel free to email me and place a custom order.
