Bella B's BARK-ery Something for all BARKS big and small! Handmade collars and leashes, personalized bandanas, and more! Please visit my website www.bellabbarkery.com

Welcome to my one woman show! Bella B's BARK-ery! Where I specialize in making handmade dog collars, leashes and other dog accessories. Bella B.'s Barkery was born out of my love for my dog Bella and frustration at finding boring selections of dog collars, leashes, and other accessories at large chain pet stores. Everything looked so plain and generic and was produced in drab, dull colors. Bella i

s a black dog and she needs something bright, happy and, most of all, unique! Afterall, each dog is unique so why not have this reflected in their accessories? Bella B.'s Barkery products are made from bright trims, many with fun, eye-catching designs, and we utilize fabrics for special occasions, holidays and seasons. From Argyle to Zoo animals we've got it covered! Each hand-sewn item is durable and soft as we use top quality materials to make them. Don't see what you want on our site? Send us an email. We are happy to work with you to create the perfect collars, leashes, or harnesses for your pup. Bella and I look forward to hearing from you. Alexandra

🐾 SENIOR DOG SUMMER ACTIVITY #2: GO ON A SNIFFARI!

Forget how far you walked. Forget how fast you went. For a Sniffari, the nose is in charge! 😂

Let your pup take the lead and sniff, explore, investigate and stop at every interesting smell along the way.

For senior dogs, a Sniffari is a great way to get some gentle mental stimulation without turning your walk into a big workout. But really, dogs of any age can enjoy a good Sniffari!

And if Jack were writing this post, he would probably say:
STOP. SMELL EVERYTHING. REPEAT. 😂🐶

So grab the leash, slow things down and let your dog choose the adventure. Sometimes the best adventures are the ones that happen at a very slow pace.

Are you going to take your pup on a Sniffari this weekend? Tell me how it goes! 👇

Well friends, our Senior Dog Summer is off to a bit of a rough start. 😢

Last Monday, I came home and found Jack visibly unwell, so I rushed him to the vet.

After an exam and later X rays, we found out that Jack has IVDD, narrowing of the spine, and arthritis. It’s been a rough week trying to get his pain under control.

He had some pretty significant adverse reactions to the first medication we tried, but unfortunately those reactions looked a lot like his back pain, so it took me a couple of days to figure out what was actually happening.

We’re trying a new medication to help with his pain, and another one should be arriving tomorrow. Neither of us has slept much this week, so to say it’s been stressful for both of us would be an understatement.

For now, we’re taking things very slowly and following his vet’s instructions while we work on getting him comfortable.

Jack is accepting all the healthy vibes, good thoughts, and prayers if you feel so inclined to send them his way. ❤️

And if you have experience with IVDD, narrowing of the spine, or arthritis in your dog, I would genuinely love to hear what helped your pup. Of course, we’re working with his vet, so I’m not looking to replace his medical care. I’m just hoping to learn from other people who have been through this.

I’m especially interested in things that helped with comfort, enrichment, keeping them happy during rest, or just getting through those difficult stretches.

I’m not really looking for horror stories right now. 😂 We have enough excitement happening over here!

💜

☀️🐾 SENIOR DOG SUMMER: ACTIVITY #1 🐾☀️

Make a Wish List for Your Dog!

If you’ve been here awhile, you might remember that as Bella got older, I started making her a little wish list each month.

I never called it a bucket list because, well...I hate the term bucket list. 😂

Instead, it was simply a list of a few things I wanted to do with her that month that I thought she would enjoy too.

Some were little adventures, like going to the beach or taking a walk somewhere new. Some were as simple as getting a special cookie from the dog bakery or spending an afternoon doing absolutely nothing together.

I always tried to include a mix of things that were free or inexpensive because making memories with your dog doesn’t have to mean doing something elaborate or spending a lot of money.

So for Senior Dog Summer, I’m bringing Bella’s Wish List back! 💜

Here’s your challenge for August:
🐾 Pick a few things you’d like to do with your dog that you know they would enjoy.
🐾 Include something new, something they already love, and something completely simple.
🐾 Make at least one of those things happen this month. It might even help to put these activities on your calendar so you have the time blocked out just for them.

And remember, this isn’t just for senior dogs! Puppies, adults, and seniors can all have a wish list.

For Jack, his wish list looks a little different than I originally planned. More on that later, but for now his list is:
🐾 Try a new enrichment activity
🐾 Make a frozen treat for him to try
🐾 Spend lots of quality time with me
🐾 Have a really good day!

And honestly, that last one might be the most important.

What will you put on your dog’s August Wish List? 💜

If you make one, I’d LOVE to see it! Tag me Bella B’s BARK-ery Dog Accessories Shop so I can cheer you on and see what your pups have planned.

☀️ Before you head out for a walk, take a look at the temperature.

🐾 Below 75°F (24°C) is generally safe for most dogs to enjoy a walk.

🐾 Between 75°F and 85°F (24°C to 29°C), use extra caution, especially if the humidity is high or you’re walking in direct sun.

🐾 Above 85°F (29°C), the risk of heatstroke, burned paw pads, and other heat related illnesses increases significantly. It’s best to skip the walk and find other ways to keep your pup active inside.

Remember, these are general guidelines. Every dog is different. Some dogs handle warmer weather better than others, while some are ready to head back inside after just a few minutes. Pay attention to your dog’s body language and don’t hesitate to cut a walk short if they seem uncomfortable.

Senior dogs, flat faced breeds, puppies, and dogs with medical conditions can overheat much more quickly, so it’s important to take even more precautions with them.

Also remember that air temperature is only part of the picture. Hot pavement, humidity, and direct sunshine can make it feel much hotter than the thermometer says.

When in doubt, choose an early morning or evening walk, stick to shady routes, bring plenty of water, and always put your dog’s safety first. They are depending on us to keep them safe 💜
