Ever heard of the Caterpillar Club? 🪂

Since 1922, airmen who escaped a doomed aircraft and survived thanks to a parachute could apply for membership. And there wasn’t just one club. Nearly every parachute manufacturer had its own.

During World War II, Switlik became one of the largest parachute manufacturers in the world, leading us to establish our own Caterpillar Club. We’ve been keeping records of lives saved by Switlik parachutes since 1943.

More than 80 years later, we’re still uncovering new stories from people whose lives were saved by Switlik gear.

We were excited to be featured in The Wall Street Journal's look at YKK, the company behind billions of zippers used around the world.

Switlik and YKK have worked together for decades, right down to the quick-burst zipper on our inflatable life preservers. As our engineering manager, Frank Stagliano, stated: 'there's a certain amount of trust that we have.'

Since then, generations of Coast Guardsmen have dedicated themselves to protecting lives at sea and serving our nation. Today, we honor that legacy and the men and women who continue the mission.
