It’s the most wonderful time of the year!

Got a call about a swarm near my apiary. I drove over to check it out and saw a lot of bees, so I headed back home and loaded up all my swarm-catching gear. Suit, boxes, tools—the whole arsenal. I was ready to bring them to a new home 🐝💪

After a closer inspection, the “swarm” turned out to be nothing more than a bunch of thirsty honeybees gathered around water trapped in some plastic covers. No swarm, no battle—just a bee watering hole.

You can’t win them all, but every call is worth checking. Better to be prepared and find thirsty bees than miss a real swarm.

I rescue honeybees, bumblebees, and occasionally bees with questionable real estate decisions. If you’ve got bees that need a new address, give me a call

Swarm trap #2 appears to have new tenants moving in. It’s awesome to see free bees choosing a box you set out for them

Day 3 checking on the swarm. Had to put the camera down because the lid was sticking to the inner cover. The girls are looking great and seem to be making themselves at home ❤️🐝

Day 3: Success! A swarm of honey bees has moved into the trap. Now the real work begins as they build their new home❤️🐝

Swarm Box #1 and #2 already have scout bees checking them out on day two. Hopefully one of these traps becomes home to a free swarm soon.

Getting the swarm traps ready — pretty sure a few of my hives are planning to swarm soon. Hopefully the girls move right in

Getting the smoker ready to help keep the bees calm during hive inspections. The cool smoke helps mask alarm pheromones so the girls stay relaxed while I work. ❤️🐝

Checking to see if the queen has been released. Can you spot the queen in the last pictures?
