Well, that day finally came, and I was able to safely rescue the colony! Itā€™s always rewarding when a little patience pays off and these bees get a second chance in a proper hive.

Every bee rescue helps preserve an important pollinator. If you have honey bees in a tree, wall, or other structure, feel free to reach out before calling an exterminator. Iā€™d be happy to see if a live rescue is possible ā¤ļøšŸ (((P.S.))) Itā€™s always better to leave honey bees in their tree home whenever possibleā€”theyā€™re right where they belong. I only recommend removing them if they become a safety concern, like stinging people mowing or gardening, or if the tree is severely damaged and will need to be removed anyway. If the bees arenā€™t bothering anyone, let them bee. šŸšŸŒ³

((((Part one)))) A little under a year ago, on July 1, 2025, I came out to look at the bees living in this tree. The gardeners are getting stung quite often when they would cut the grass around the tree. At the time, the owner didnā€™t want to damage the tree, even though it was completely hollow. I told them that if the tree was ever damaged or had to come down, to give me a call.

Got a call about a swarm near my apiary. I drove over to check it out and saw a lot of bees, so I headed back home and loaded up all my swarm-catching gear. Suit, boxes, toolsā€”the whole arsenal. I was ready to bring them to a new home šŸšŸ’Ŗ

After a closer inspection, the ā€œswarmā€ turned out to be nothing more than a bunch of thirsty honeybees gathered around water trapped in some plastic covers. No swarm, no battleā€”just a bee watering hole.

You canā€™t win them all, but every call is worth checking. Better to be prepared and find thirsty bees than miss a real swarm.
