Meet Stoker, a coal-black beauty with mesmerizing green eyes and a gaze that seems to tell a story.
There’s something wonderfully soulful about Stoker. He has the eyes of someone who’s been deeply loved—and he’s ready to share that love again. This gentle boy enjoys cozy spots, quiet companionship, and simply being near his people. His favorite place may just be your lap, where he can settle in and enjoy the comfort of having someone to love.
Stoker has renal insufficiency, common in older cats. He eats a prescription diet and takes subcutaneous fluids easily. Stoker is looking for an adopter who can continue his care. Remember, pets adopted from PACC are eligible to use our low-cost Friends of PACC Clinic on 1st Ave.

The 8th annual Santa Cruz River Dragonfly Festival is here and to celebrate we explore the pond damsel family, the largest damselfly family in the world. The presentation will help get you ready for the festival field trips (or a trip to your local pond or stream).

Lifestyles of the Smooth and Scaly:
Threadsnakes and Other Primitive Serpents

Monday, September 14, 2026 @ 7:00 p.m.

This month we explore the world’s most primitive snakes, threadsnakes, blindsnakes, and some others, not all of which occur in North America. Some of these snakes look a lot more like a worm than a snake. Join us for a look at the low branches of the snake family tree.

Order Up!: Skimmers

The World of Mammals:
The Big Cats

Tuesday, September 29, 2026 @ 7:00 p.m.

Adventures in Birding:
Crows, Ravens, and Magpies

Tuesday, October 6, 2026 @ 7:00 p.m.

As we have officially entered Spooky Season, it is a good time to look at these trio of corvids that historically have been birds of bad omen. They are not, of course, but they are intelligent and fascinating birds that deserve a closer look.

Lifestyles of the Smooth and Scaly: Newts

Tuesday, October 13, 2026 @ 7:00 p.m.

Newts are a group of salamanders comprising about 100 species found across the Northern Hemisphere. They are highly toxic and exhibit a fascinating life cycle. They also, apparently, are a common ingredient in witches potions, making October a great time to look at them.

The World of Mammals:
Baleen Whales

Monday, October 26, 2026 @ 7:00 p.m.

This month we leave the desert to look at some truly monstrous (in size) mammals that inspire awe and fascination whenever they are observed. Surprisingly, it is still unclear how many species of these mammals inhabit the world’s oceans.

Order Up!: Ghost Moths

Wednesday, October 28, 2026 @ 7:00 p.m.

In the spirit of the season, we explore Ghost Moths, a family that includes some very large moths. They have intriguing natural history, have short flight times, and are easily overlooked.

Butterfly populations across the United States are in alarming decline, according to a 2025 study in Science, with total abundance falling by 22% in just 20 years.

Such widespread and worrisome losses portend broader environmental threats and emphasize the urgent need for conservation action. “Our national-scale findings paint the most complete—and concerning—picture of the status of butterflies across the country in the early 21st century,” write the authors.

The authors also note that butterflies have the potential for rapid recovery under favorable conditions, highlighting the importance of proactive conservation strategies to prevent further declines and to support long-term population stability.
