Wheelin’ again Wednesday!

Two Andy’s enter and two amazingly reimagined bikes leave our shop! If your wondering what I am talking about, take a look at last week’s wheelin again Wednesday and you’ll meet Andy #1. But this week is all about Andy #2!

We love performing major overhauls on your beloved bike. It’s so satisfying to transform people’s ride-or-dies into massively functional transportation machines.

Like Andy #1, Andy #2 trusted us to take his Japanese road bike through the rehaul process. It also received wider tires and more modern wheels. This bike went the extra distance and received a mostly new and more modern drive train.

A big highlight for this bike is the handlebars. These are a “Sadie’s Bikes special,” making an upright cockpit capable of multiple hand locations and postures. You can buy bars very close to these for $150+ but with our method they cost more like $75.

BRING US YOUR RIDE. We’d love to meet you and your bike and discuss ways of making it. more YOU!

Hi folks,

#1 first and most important thing is to make sure you bring lights to the next group ride! Make sure they are charged (or have fresh batteries) and securely fastened to the bike.

We are really trying to cram in all of our fun rides as the season starts to wind down. This week we are meeting OFFSITE again. We will gather at the MONTAGUE BOOKMILL at 6:00pm and leave as promptly as possible at 6:30. Both rides will conclude at friends of the shop Alice & Ted’s house for food and hang. They have graciously agreed to provide food! They live just a five-minute bike ride from the Bookmill, and parking at their house is extremely limited. Therefore, do not ride back to your car after the ride; follow us to Alice & Ted’s by bike.

Weather is looking a little iffy this week but we are going to brave it no matter what. If its raining we may ride as one big group on the regular route. Be prepared to wear rain gear.

The regular route this week takes us on “Alice’s loop.” This is a well trodden ride that we have done several times this summer, except this time we will be joined by its namesake, ALICE! The loop takes us down from the bookmill along the most beautiful farm roads and wrapping back into town. It involves at least one challenging climb but the payoff down the other side RULES!

For the rugged ride this week we’ll be doing an 11-mile out and bike style of route to the summit of Mt. Toby via Tower Road. The route involves a long steep unpaved climb to the top of a mountain so you’ll want big tires and low gearing! A hard-tail mountainbike, ATB or gravel bike with sizable tires would be a good choice, just be prepared for rocky, rooty steep terrain.

See you Thursday!!!

Wheelin’ again Wednesday!

DEEEEEEEEP Cutoms are one of our all time favorite services at the shop. Whether it’s a beloved bike that you want to keep in working order or something new to you Sadie’s is ready for yah.

Andy trusted us with a total rehab on his old, reliable, French road bike. It was tricky to balance the need for a refresh while maintaining everything the customer loves about this bike. We did our best to save as many parts as possible and in the end I think we nailed it! I even heard this thing has been ripping around rural Maine with ease!!!!

One of the biggest upgrades was a departure from the original steel 27” wheels to more modern, aluminum 700c wheels. Modern wheels have a slightly smaller diameter which positions the tire in a wider part of the frame allowing for greater tire clearance. We were able to go from a width of 28c (pavement friendly) to 40c, making it gravel-ready!

Thank you for trusting us with your bike!!!

Hello riders,

As teased in last week’s email, regular rider and woodsmith extraordinaire Eric Donelly is curating the group ride this week. We will start from the Leverett Town Hall ( #9 Montague Road, Leverett) and wind back to his house ( #50 Montague Road, Leverett) down the street where he will host the BBQ portion of the ride. Ride will pull out of the city hall parking lot promptly at 6:30 so please be there by 6:15.

Here is a Message from Eric:

Firstly, it is mandatory that you BRING LIGHTS ON THIS RIDE!!!!!! We will not be starting from the shop so there will be no lights to borrow. If you do not have lights you will be unable to attend this week’s rides.

Here’s a description of the Rugged Route:
A challenging gravel ride through some of the great dirt roads and woods roads of Leverett and Shutesbury. 27 miles, 2200’ of elevation. This route includes paved roads, gravel roads, double track, a few short sections of single track, and a significant board-walk section! Either a modern gravel bike or a hard-tail mountain bike would be a good fit. This ride is not suitable for road bikes with skinny tires. We will depart from the Leverett Post Office/Town Hall (address #9 Montague Road, Leverett.) There is parking there. Please try to arrive by 6:15 so we can depart at 6:30. Expecting to take around 3 hours. If anyone gets in over their head, there’s a good place to split off at mile 12 to take a shorter and/or less rugged way back.
Post ride outdoor grilling/chilling and a fire will take place at #50 Montague Road, just down the road from the start.”

Description of regular ride:
A paved ride that circles the base of Mt. Toby. This ride will overlap with the first two highlight stops of the rugged ride —the cannon and the peace pagoda. If you have the ability to load this route onto a cell phone or biking computer please come prepared to self-navigate.

Right now it’s looking like 30% chance of rain which is well within our comfort zone for a ride but you may want to bring rain gear just in case.

Hope to see you all riding!
p.s. LIGHTS!!!!!!!

Wheelin’ again into the Weekend!

We sent out some cool bikes this week, including one of the last bikes that had been built at the shop when it was across the canal!

Come down to Sadie’s for your next bike. Take a test ride and talk to our mechanics about what you’re looking for. We’re building up new stuff all the time, check it out!

This week’s ‘regular’ ride will be cancelled due to rain… but MTB’ers will still be headed out!

Here is info about the ‘rugged’ ride, from Victor:
Hello rugged riders, for this week’s MTB ride we’re going to go back to Rocky Mountain / Highland park. This ride won’t be very technical, but will feature many steep little climbs covered in roots, sharp trap rock, and loose leaves. The ride will be around 10 miles and consist of mostly singletrack. Expect to be riding singletrack in the dark, so please please please bring lights.
Whoever brings the most lights will win a special prize. Also, since it tends to rain whenever we try to do a MTB ride, stay tuned for a last minute email concerning the weather on the day of the ride. If it’s raining gently or spottily, we will try to ride a little on trails that can take it. Otherwise if it’s raining a little harder, we may switch it up at the last minute to a greasy gravel ride. Regardless, us rugged riders are always trying to ride, so if you’ve got that dog in you, show up and we’ll figure out some kind of ride and we will definitely have a good time. Hope to see you there! Ride leaves from the shop at 6pm!

Wheelin’ Again Wednesday!

More bikes out the door! Sizing up, buying a back to school bike, or just something that is ready to ride for the nice fall weather biking season.

You might notice our friend’s bike in the last picture has no pedals… which is something we get requests for from people at any age who are learning to balance on a bike or ween off training wheels. It’s an easy thing to take them off, and to put them back on when you’re ready to pedal! We want your bike to work for you!

If you’re ready for a new bike, come down to the shop & check out what we have in stock.

Hey everyone!

This week we’ve got something a little bit different planned for the group ride. We’ll be riding in a big group out to the Northfield Riverview Picnic Area which will be our BBQ and hang out destination. For those of you who haven’t been, its a pretty nice spot with a bunch of picnic tables, grills and a pavilion. Food and grilling supplies will be shuttled over there and will be waiting for us when we arrive. After we’ve had our fill we’ll ride back to the shop!

Route Description:
The route this time is pretty much an out-and-back to the picnic area from the shop. It’s about 15 miles, 7.5 miles there and 7.5 miles back. The route is pretty flat but we do have to climb a bit to get out of town and descend a bit to get down to the Miller’s river. There is a brief gravel section once we get close to the picnic area but its pretty smooth and should still be doable on skinny tires if thats what you have.

Sidequests:
There will be opportunities for some sidequests on this ride if there are folks who are interested, including the nearby Four Star Farms (open until 8pm), swim spots, and a potential ‘rugged’ detour through the Montague Plains.

RIDE LEAVES THE SADIE’S BIKES PARKING LOT AT 6:15 SHARP!

LIGHTS ARE MANDATORY, BE PREPARED TO RIDE BACK TO THE SHOP IN THE DARK!

If you have any questions about the ride, email us or call the shop!

Cheers!
