💧 "Waterproof" and "Water-Resistant" aren't the same thing when it comes to LVP flooring.
We hear these terms used all the time, but they mean very different things.
✅ Waterproof LVP
Waterproof flooring is designed so the vinyl plank itself won't be damaged by water. Spills, pet accidents, and wet shoes generally won't ruin the plank if cleaned up. This makes it a great choice for kitchens, bathrooms, mudrooms, and busy households.
⚠️ Water-Resistant LVP
Water-resistant flooring can handle small spills for a limited time, but if water sits too long or works its way into the seams, it can eventually cause problems. It's better suited for areas where moisture is occasional rather than frequent.
Here's the part many people don't realize...
Even with waterproof flooring, the floor underneath it usually isn't waterproof. If a dishwasher leaks, a toilet overflows, or a pipe bursts, water can seep through the seams and reach the subfloor. Left untreated, that moisture can lead to swelling, mold, or other costly repairs.
Bottom line:
✔️ Waterproof = the flooring itself resists water damage.
✔️ Water-resistant = the flooring can tolerate moisture for a while, but not indefinitely.
✔️ Neither one means you should leave standing water on your floor.
Choosing the right flooring isn't just about color—it's about matching the product to your lifestyle. If you have kids, pets, or a home that's prone to spills, understanding this difference can save you a lot of headaches later. This type of educational post tends to get good engagement because it teaches people something they often don't know while subtly showing your expertise without feeling like an advertisement.
