An ocean of oldsquaws. This is part of the 3 dozen oldsquaw decoys I finished for some customers.
Have to start getting my mind in decoy mode as the Bay Waterfowl Festival is right around the corner. (August 1st & 2nd)

I have used commercially available Oldsquaw heads (Autumn Wings) in the past but decided I didn't like the bill length and how the bill was shaped.
So, I started carving my own. The drakes are still awaiting eyes and pink for the bills but I like the overall shape better.

Though most of our business is word-of-mouth and referrals, we try to do a few outdoors shows each year. That being said, come see us at the 2026 Saginaw Bay Waterfowl Festival in Bay City, August 1 & 2! We'll have decoy kits, finished decoys, custom deep-water spinners, heads, keels, downloads for our YouTube how-to-carve channel, apparel and more available for purchase. If you are a waterfowl lover, one of the best times of year is the early spring as the birds make their way north. Out front by the river, we’ve had Canada geese, mallards, swans, goldeneyes, common mergansers, and hooded mergansers come through so far. It’s been amusing to watch the hooded mergansers perform their mating rituals, with the drakes fluffing their hoods and showing off for the hens. Hard to tell from this video, but they’ve been at it again this morning. God’s creation is awesome! Creation Museum
