A good table isn’t just designed to look good. It has to belong in the room.

This one is a substantial 7’ x 4’ cypress table built to comfortably seat 8. Since it was going into a nook, a traditional four post design would have eaten up valuable leg room. Instead, we went with two massive built up 8” x 8” pedestals. They command plenty of visual space without taking it away from the people sitting around the table.

Up top is a knot-free, 2” thick cypress top with a traditional round over and a full apron made from the same material. Underneath, sliding Z-clips secure the top while still allowing the solid wood to move naturally with the seasons.

But the part I spend the most time thinking about is something you can’t really put on a spec sheet: visual proportion.

The thicker top and apron, oversized pedestals, minimal profiles, and lack of a traditional stretcher all work together to make this a modern interpretation of a French style table rather than a reproduction of one.

We finished it with an espresso stain to complement the cypress trim already in the room, followed by a satin water-based polyurethane. It’s smooth and water-resistant without giving the wood that cheap, overly shiny look. And the satin finish lets the finer sophisticated grain of the cypress do the talking.

Good furniture isn’t just about making something beautiful.

It’s thinking through the room, the people who will use it, and all the little details that make the finished piece feel like it was always supposed to belong there.

A long-time customer reached back out to me for an unexpected project: a table.

What? Why was a table unexpected? Because she already had one in her dining room 😂 She loved the first one, and explained that they were building a family room onto their house and wanted a table for a nook area to gather around.

So we designed this timeless 2 pedestal French-style cypress table with an espresso stain for her. Not only does it match the trim in their favorite room, it’s a space for entertaining, connecting, and enjoying some family games.

Alongside our rebrand has also been a shift in carefully deciding what our “no” should be, so we can save our “yes” for the best: bringing back the heart of the family table.

Our rebrand is more than changing a name and casting our original vision in a better spotlight, it’s also about growth. The Cajun Table Company is looking ahead to expanding our reach regionally - beyond the local area where we’ve been formerly as Trey’s Woodshop. As we expand and grow, we hope you’ll journey with us and support what’s ahead. 🔨

What is the “truck test” & what does that have to do with our name change? 🤔🚛 Watch part 2 to find out!

Over the next week we will be rolling out a 4 part video series on the why and how behind Trey’s Woodshop evolving into what it is today, The Cajun Table Company.

Looking ahead, our focus is shifting to crafting the items we produce best:

• 🍽️ tables
• 🔪 cutting boards
• ⏲️ kitchen items

We are focusing on our original mission: bringing families back together around the kitchen table. 🤍

Stay tuned for part 2!

It’s official!

Trey’s Woodshop is now The Cajun Table Company. This might come out of left field for some, but it’s something I’ve thought about for almost two years now.

The reason? Several! But I’ll talk about a few.

First, it’s to emphasize MORE of what I already do - I’ve slowly gravitated towards building up the family table both physically and metaphorically. Most of what I make is either actual tables or kitchenware, board games, and items that contribute to spending more time at the table.

Second. This is probably on the more practical side. I’m always getting calls asking if I do flooring, asking if people can buy slabs from me, asking if I refinish furniture, asking if I know any good electricians (under the assumption I’m a contractor)… the list goes on. While those are all really cool things, I want to filter out some of those requests. There’s only so much time in the day, and I want to stick to what I’m really good at.

Third. I’ve used a ton of “I” in this post. And for the most part, Trey’s Woodshop has been just me, Trey. But over the years, I’ve pulled in more people - my wife helps a TON, we’ve had a couple media people, I’ve had friends and family come help when I’m really busy. So as I look at the next couple years, my woodworking business is going to look bigger than “just me”.

The name is changing because the business has finally grown into the original vision.

And WE would love for you to help us spread the word. If you’ve enjoyed following Trey’s Woodshop over the years, share this post and help welcome The Cajun Table Company.
