Loaded up and headed out to Winnsboro Lake, got on the water, and hit the boat docks. We killed them hiding up in the shadows of the docks. Caught this slab on a unique jig that I re-created from a young jig tyer…

Can’t wait for a return trip…

Experienced a very humbling moment while vending at the 903 Fishing May Madness Crappie Showdown at The Boulders at Lake Tyler…

I’ve only been custom hand tying crappie jigs for a little over a year. After a chance visit to Slab City Jigs Outdoors, the day prior to their grand opening, I met Colter Gaswint, guide and owner of the store. Colter gifted me my first jig heads and offered so much information on tying and supplies…and I set a path…to learn to hand tie. Oh, Colter…thank you for giving this old man a chance…

I initially set up a page for Back40Waters in 2025… not really expecting much to come out of it…I wasn’t exactly well honed on social media, and am still not…
As of today I have 750+ followers…90% of my followers joining me on my journey just in 2026. That in itself was humbling…big heart felt Thank You to my followers. As if that wasn’t enough, a follower attending the 903 Fishing Tournament requested taking a photo with me…WOW!…I wasn’t ready for that. Shout out to a follower that truly made my day…Joe Hernandez…tight lines Joe!

I am by no means a media influencer…I am just thank full that God has blessed me with good people in my journey…

Back40Waters was vending at the 903 Fishing May Madness Crappie Showdown on Saturday May 30th, at The Boulders at Lake Tyler. Over 58 teams entered the tournament in both livescope and non-livescope divisions. Over 25 vendors and fun activities for everyone. Except for the heat it was a great day…Thanks to God!

What could be better than getting with a dear friend who you haven’t “seen” in over 10 years…you schedule a crappie trip with Slab City Jigs Outdoors to bring back memories of the lake you both constantly fished years ago. Michael Selucky, our guide with Slab City Jigs Outdoors, did a great job getting us on a few. We started off by tying on one of Back40Waters own jigs that are available at the Slab City Jigs Outdoors on a 12’ Outlaw Crappie Poles…so check them out…

Severe storms, the night before, had dumped a huge amount of rain that had now reached and was filling Granger Lake with water and huge debris…not to mention the water temp dropped fast. We saw the water rise over 12” in as little as 2 hours. Plenty of crappie to be had, but this water change took their appetite away.

Overall we had a great time. Michael was very polite and informative…if you looking to book a trip…ask for MJ!!!!
