Are you curious about Mutants and Masterminds??? Here's a run down! We will be featuring our very first session at our next event on January 11th.
Mutants & Masterminds 3rd Edition is a popular superhero tabletop role-playing game that uses the d20 system as a base but streamlines mechanics for a four-color comic book feel.
System Foundation: The game uses a single d20 roll system, moving away from many Dungeons & Dragons 3e complexities like classes or experience levels, focusing instead on narrative action.
Character Points: Instead of experience points, characters are built and advanced using character (power) points within an agreed-upon "Power Level" (PL) determined by the Game Master. Power Levels typically range from street-level heroes (PL5-7) to cosmic threats (PL10-14).
Damage and Conditions: Damage does not use hit points. Instead, characters make a resistance check against a difficulty class (DC) of 10 plus the effect's rank. Failure results in conditions like being bruised, dazed, or incapacitated, which apply penalties to future checks and make the character more vulnerable, reflecting the dramatic, non-lethal combat of comic books.
Hero Points: Players receive "Hero Points" (or "Victory Points" in the Open Game Content version) which they can spend to gain advantages, such as re-rolling checks, ignoring penalties, or adding a new plot element to the story.
