Thanksgiving is a season of gratitude, but it is also an important season for the small makers whose products become part of the gifts exchanged around the table.

We use Fortune Favors pecans throughout the year, but they appear in many of our fall and holiday boxes. They are easy to share, beautifully packaged, and familiar enough for a group gift while still feeling special.

Fortune Favors is a Madison-based company founded in 2018 by chef Eric Rupert. Its candied pecans are made in small batches here in Wisconsin.

When a company chooses a JNJ holiday gift, that order can travel through several small businesses before reaching the recipient. One gift thanks the person receiving it while creating meaningful business for the makers behind it.

When I designed this box, I pictured the client, host, or referral partner whose gift would be opened at the kitchen counter and shared before dinner.

The spiced caramel pear jam and artisan crisps make it easy to set something out for guests. The orange-clove hot toddy mix creates a warm drink for a cold evening. Candied pecans, cinnamon maple bourbon chocolate, and dried oranges add something special to enjoy slowly or share around the table.

Every product belongs to the same fall and winter experience. It feels seasonal without relying on products that can only be enjoyed on one holiday.

When I begin designing corporate holiday gifts, I do not start by filling a box with seasonal products.

I first consider who will receive the gift, what the company wants to recognize, and how the recipient should feel when it arrives.

A gift for a longtime client may need to feel personal and generous. A gift for an employee team may need to be inclusive and easy to distribute. An executive gift may call for fewer products with a more understated presentation.

Once those decisions are clear, the products, packaging, message, and branding can support the same purpose.

That is how a holiday gift becomes part of the relationship instead of another seasonal delivery.
