The humans keep saying “hot girl summer,” but I believe we can improve this.

Bookish girl summer.

Aka reading in the car, reading in the checkout line, reading during lunch, reading while the laundry looks at you with judgment, and reading “just one more chapter” until it is no longer a responsible hour.

This is not a phase.

This is a lifestyle.

Because personally, I believe wandering between shelves, carrying an increasingly unreasonable stack of books, and emotionally justifying every single one should absolutely count as exercise.

Bonus points if there are dragons involved.

Loyal Readers — the hoard has grown. Five acquisitions arrived this Tuesday, and I have, after due deliberation, deemed each one worthy of you.

Light Wielder — Rachel Schneider: The conclusion to Metal Slinger: a brutal war, political intrigue, and a forbidden love complicated by one rather memorable betrayal. The humans of "BookTok" are beside themselves. I understand the feeling. I would simply never say so out loud.

The Missed Connection — Tia Williams: A casting agent meets a stranger on a flight to Paris and — catastrophe — fails to get his name, launching a chaotic search that eventually involves a hired detective. I study matters of the heart purely for anthropological purposes, of course. Funny, tender, and a fine argument for taking the leap.

Villa Coco — Andrew Sean Greer: A young archivist is sent to catalog the art of a crumbling Tuscan villa for its imperious ninety-two-year-old Baronessa. I feel a certain kinship with anyone charged with cataloging treasures (and with anyone imperious and ninety-two). Greer keeps a Pulitzer. Respectable.

Heather — Caitlin Mullen: A small-town detective reopens an unsolved case, and the tremor reaches generations of women. I am partial to things that stay hidden until precisely the right moment. From the Edgar Award winner behind Please See Us.

Cat Love — Tomás Q. Morín: A dystopian novel narrated by a cat in a Schrödinger's box, training "Emotional Support Humans" in a near-future America. I am told the cat is haughty, ancient in spirit, and reluctantly devoted to one human. A baffling premise. I shall be reading it twice.

All five rest in the main room as of this morning. Come and meet them while the choosing is still good.

Dear loyal readers,

One of the greatest challenges facing humanity today is attempting to leave a bookstore with only one book.

You enter with good intentions.

You tell yourself you’ll “just browse.”

Then suddenly you’re carrying three dragon books, a special edition, and a title recommended by a complete stranger who seemed trustworthy.

A tale as old as time.

That said, I feel it is important to clarify something.

If you leave with one book, that’s perfectly acceptable.

A single book is still an adventure.

A single book is still a story waiting to be discovered.

And whether you leave with one book or a towering stack that requires both arms to carry, we are grateful for every single purchase.

Truly.

Every book that finds a new home helps keep this little corner of the kingdom full of stories, dragons, and readers.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to continue pretending that leaving with only one book is a realistic goal.

Loyal Readers,

The hoard has grown.

A great many crates have arrived at my door, and I have spent the better part of yesterday inspecting their contents with the scrutiny such treasures demand. New releases, long-awaited returns, and a number of volumes I acquired simply because they deserved a home. The shelves are full. All is as it should be.

I will also confess to a small indulgence. I notice things. I noticed, for instance, which of you carried home the first book of a series and lingered a moment too long at the door, already wondering about the next. So I made certain the next was waiting for you. (I would not call this sentiment. I would call it good stewardship. You may call it whatever helps you sleep.)

And should you still be searching for something I have not yet gathered — speak its name. My reach is long, and my crates arrive swiftly.

Tell me what you are hunting for. I do so enjoy a good hunt.

After a successful grand opening, Solomon has graciously allowed me to write today’s caption. 😂

Y’all, thank you.

When we first dreamed about opening a bookstore, we hoped it would become a place where readers could discover new adventures, talk about books, and maybe leave with a dragon book or two.

What I never could have imagined was seeing it filled with so many amazing people.

Seeing readers browsing the shelves, chatting with each other, bringing their families, and sharing in the excitement was honestly surreal.

Starting a bookstore is a little scary. (Okay, a LOT scary.)

But this community showed up for us in such a big way, and I’m still sitting here this week feeling incredibly grateful.

Whether you came to the grand opening, shared a post, told a friend about us, or have been cheering us on from afar, thank you for being part of this adventure.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to hand the account back over before Solomon notices I’ve been typing.

And yes, he was VERY pleased with the number of books that left the store. 🐉📚

Humans continue to perplex me.

You insist you don’t need more books while simultaneously searching for more books.

This is like a dragon standing on a mountain of gold and declaring, “I really should stop collecting treasure.”

The words say one thing.

The actions say another.

As they should.

I have never once looked at my hoard and thought, “Yes, this seems sufficient.”

Why would books be any different?

Dear loyal readers,

When the humans first began preparing this space, they spoke often of a “vision.”

Normally, I distrust visions. They tend to involve quests, prophecies, or someone bothering me during a perfectly good nap.

But this one was simple.

Fill the room with books.

Then fill the room with readers.

Judging by the evidence before me, I regret to inform you that they have succeeded.

The shelves are being explored.

The treasures are being claimed.

And the hoard continues to grow.

A most satisfactory outcome.
