Three arrivals this Tuesday, and two of them concern pirates. I am told this is coincidence.

📕 Tempest — Victoria Aveyard. The Lyrian Sea #1, and her first novel for adults. A condemned noblewoman is offered her life in exchange for hunting the last great pirate captain — the Empire's most dangerous enemy, and the only man she has ever loved.

📗 The Pirate Queen — Ariel Lawhon. From the author of The Frozen River: Grace O'Malley, the sixteenth-century Irishwoman who commanded her clan's fleet and declined, at every opportunity, to be governed.

📖 Taipei Story — R.F. Kuang. A college freshman spends a summer in Taipei expecting to find home, and finds instead grief, family silences, and questions no one will answer.

Two ships and one homecoming. I recommend all three, and I say this rarely.

That means the candles, bookmarks, bookish treasures, and other highly necessary additions to your hoard are currently a little easier to justify.

Books themselves are not included.

Apparently, there must be limits.

Loyal Readers,

Four arrivals this Tuesday — and two of them are books readers have been counting down to for the better part of a year. I shelved them at dawn and expect neither to sit still for long.

📕 The Knave and the Moon — Rachel Gillig. The Stonewater Kingdom #2, the conclusion of the duology begun in The Knight and the Moth. Aisling Cathedral lies in ruins, Sybil is bound to a king she means to unmake, and a nameless knight has entered the tournament.

📗 Blightfall — Brandon Sanderson & Janci Patterson. Riftwake #1, a new trilogy set in the Skyward universe, Young Adult (12+). Skyward Flight lands on a planet swallowed by invasive forest and finds the settlement there is not what it claims to be.

📖 Under Story — Chloe Benjamin. From the author of The Immortalists: two ex-spouses at an Antarctic research station discover a glowing phenomenon that may let them live their shared past a second time. (I would decline. Probably.)

📚 The Birthing Tree — Amanda Peters. From the author of The Berry Pickers: a woman born beneath a sacred oak returns home, decades later, to the midwife's ways she left behind.

A duology ends, a trilogy begins, and two standalones hold the middle ground. The shelves are balanced; you need not be. Choose wisely — or, better, choose several.
