Night shift nurses know… surviving 7 PM–7 AM is basically a skill of its own. 😂🌙

Between fighting the 3 AM crash, trying to remember what day it is, and wondering whether your blackout curtains are actually dark enough… the right routine AND the right gear can make a huge difference.

I put together my **essential night shift survival tips + must-have gear for nurses**, from protecting your sleep to the little things that make those long shifts easier.

🌙 New to nights? Save this one.

Every nurse knows exactly where this is going… 😂🩺

“I just have ONE quick question…”

And somehow 10 minutes later, you’re untangling an IV, adjusting three pillows, finding another blanket, explaining the medication again, AND calling dietary. 😂

But hey… we love them anyway. 💗

**Nurses, what phrase does a patient say that instantly makes you think, “Here we go…”?** 👇

Drop yours in the comments! I have a feeling these are going to be good. 😂

💙 Experienced nurses, let’s help the next generation.

If you could go back and give yourself ONE piece of advice before your very first shift as a new grad nurse…

What would it be?

Maybe it’s something you learned the hard way.
Maybe it’s a mistake you’ll never make again.
Or maybe it’s a reminder that helped you become the nurse you are today.

👇 Share your advice in the comments.

✨ New grads: Save this post and come back to read through the comments. Some of the best nursing advice comes from those who’ve been exactly where you are.

Let’s build a thread every new nurse should read. 💗🩺

🏥 Has post-pandemic staffing really improved... or have hospitals simply adapted to doing more with less?**

Many nurses have noticed a shift in healthcare staffing since the pandemic. While "crisis standards" may have officially ended, many units continue to operate with skeleton crews, leaving nurses stretched thin and patients at greater risk.

When staffing is unsafe, everyone feels it:
💙 Nurses experience burnout.
💙 Patients receive delayed care.
💙 Small details are easier to miss.
💙 The emotional toll follows us long after the shift ends.

Protecting your patients also means protecting yourself and your nursing license. Knowing when and how to document concerns, use safe staffing reporting tools, and advocate for your patients matters now more than ever.

If you've ever felt like you're expected to do the work of two people, you're not alone.

💬 **Do you think post-pandemic staffing has improved at your facility, stayed the same, or gotten worse?** I'd love to hear your experience.

🎓 **Starting your first nursing job? The little things can make a BIG difference.**

There are plenty of resources out there, but a few essentials can help you feel more prepared, organized, and confident from day one.

Some of my favorites include:

📝 A pocket organizer to keep your everyday essentials within reach

Whether you're wrapping up nursing school or getting ready for your first shift, investing in tools that make your life easier is always worth it.

💢🖐️Nurses, when was the last time you took care of YOU?

When you spend every shift caring for everyone else, your own needs have a way of falling to the bottom of the list. Sometimes self-care isn’t a spa day or an entire day off, it’s drinking enough water, protecting your sleep, taking five quiet minutes after a hard shift, or doing something that makes you feel like you again.

Even the smallest things count.

💬 What’s one small thing you do to take care of yourself during a busy week? Share yours below, you might give another nurse an idea they desperately need.

Nursing school taught us how to pass meds, assess patients, chart, and perform clinical skills… but some of the hardest parts of becoming a nurse were never in the curriculum. 🩺

No textbook can fully prepare you for the emotional weight of the job, impossible workloads, losing a patient you cared about, or going home after a shift wondering if you did enough.

These are the conversations we need to have, especially with nursing students and new grads who deserve to know they aren’t alone when the reality of bedside nursing hits differently than they expected.

Nurses: What’s ONE thing nursing school didn’t prepare you for? Drop it in the comments. Your answer might help a future nurse feel a little more prepared. 💕
