Discouragement kept Christ's disciples from bringing help to a young boy possessed by an evil spirit. May we earnestly seek a powerful faith, though tiny as a mustard seed, that can burst with God's mighty force to move mountains of difficulty to bring the light of the Gospel to the many children around us who are shut in prisons of isolation during this pandemic. National leaders are beginning to talk of getting students back into the classroom. Is it time for Sabbath School leaders to look at reopening children's classes? Many church operated schools are open--is there justification for keeping Sabbath School closed in these cases? What do you think?

Get to know kid’s interest and draw illustrations they are passionate about. Speak to me of how Jesus wants to restore me like making an antique truck better than new and I get that—you have my full attention!!! I draw lessons for my crafts from nature to illustrate lesson themes. And as you get to know your kids you can make this even more relevant. What are your kids jazzed about? Christ's "messages of mercy were varied to suit His audience. He knew 'how to speak a word in season to him that is weary'. (Isa. 50:4); for grace was poured upon His lips, that He might convey to men in the most attractive way the treasures of truth. He had tact to meet the prejudiced minds, and surprise them with illustrations that won their attention. Through the imagination He reached the heart. His illustrations were taken from the things of daily life, and although they were simple, they had in them a wonderful depth of meaning. The birds of the air, the lilies of the field, the seed, the shepherd and the sheep,--with these objects Christ illustrated immortal truth; and ever afterward, when His hearers chanced to see these things of nature, they recalled His words. Christ's illustrations constantly repeated His lessons." (DA 254:2)

As I reflected on “The Passover Visit” in The Desire of Ages, I imagined I was one of the teachers at the temple school when Jesus visited.

What would I think if a student asked me questions while I was teaching? Would I take a moment to listen carefully to understand before answering? What would I think if God were using a child to teach me. When Jesus questioned the teachers, it was Emmanuel (God with us) who stood there, but of course they did not know this. As God stands beside me and speaks through another person am I willing to listen? God just tried this with me. As I was writing these thoughts (teaching as it were), my wife came in and shared a key thought. I was tempted to see her conversation as an interruption, but God knew what I needed and spoke to me through her. It reminds me that I must always be listening so I can hear God's timely communication.

I may be surprised at who God chooses to do His talking. God used Balaam's donkey. He may use a little child, a new Christian, or a close family member. Am I humble enough to listen to someone I think should be listening to me? What could God do if I as a teacher went to Sabbath School expecting to learn from others? I think it would profoundly change the atmosphere there. Children might open up as they felt valued and a whole train of blessings could follow.
