No, really, Whiskeytown is open!
The U.S. Forest Service has temporarily closed all national forests in California due to the extreme fire danger. As Whiskeytown National Recreation Area is a National Park Service unit, we are still open for recreation. Because the air quality index changes throughout the day you may find that our Visitor Center and Beach Stores temporarily closed. Whiskeytown also has a temporary ban on open flames in the park. This includes wood or charcoal grills. Gas or propane stoves are allowed.
We strongly recommend that you check the air quality before coming out to the park. We have an air quality sensor installed at our fire station and you can check what the AQI (air quality index) is by visiting the NPS Live Weather & Air Quality Data page
