The countdown is on! 💙🤍

Our newest collection drops tomorrow, and it's one we've been especially excited to create (especially after selling out in just a day at the Arts Festival!! 🤯).

We cannot wait to bring to you our State College collection featuring mugs, wine glasses, espresso cups and trinket dishes!

PLUS, we've added some of our favorite pieces to the site as well so if State College flair isn't your thing, there's more to see!

Well… first, I ditched using clay to hold my pieces down. 😂

That’s how I learned to keep my pieces on the wheel, and it worked great for probably my first year of throwing. But eventually, I realized how frustrated I was with how much time setup was taking, so I started experimenting with other methods.

And now? I’m ready to trim in less than 30 seconds. 🙌🏽

So, how do I do it?

✨ Run a slightly damp sponge over a spinning wheel
✨ Stop the wheel and place your piece as centered as possible by eye (wheel rings definitely help!)
✨ Make sure your piece is just before leather hard—not too soft, or you risk ruining your rim
✨ Give the piece a tiny spin left and right with your hand once it’s on the wheel. This creates a little suction/air pocket between the clay and wheel
✨ If you’ve done it right, that piece isn’t going anywhere!

Then I find my center with my trimming tool and get to work. 🤌🏽

A simple little change that has saved me SO much time!

This might be a slightly controversial pottery opinion, but I believe it’s always important to have a foot carved into the bottom of your pottery piece. And here’s why 👇

✨ It creates a finished look. A foot gives the bottom of a piece a clean, intentional finish instead of leaving a large flat surface.

🪑 It helps protect your tables. A properly finished foot keeps the rough, unglazed clay from dragging directly across your tabletop and scratching the surface.

🏺 It gives the piece stability. A well-carved foot creates a defined base and helps the piece sit securely and evenly.

🤲 It makes the piece nicer to handle. That little finished edge makes a noticeable difference when you're picking up and using a handmade piece.

💧 It keeps the functional surface where it belongs. For pieces like mugs, bowls, and plates, the foot helps separate the functional body of the piece from the surface it’s sitting on.

And perhaps most importantly… the foot needs to be FINISHED properly. 👀

We smooth and sand the feet on our pottery three separate times throughout the process before a piece ever makes its way into your hands. Because handmade shouldn't mean rough, scratchy, or unfinished.

It’s a small detail—but it’s one of the things I think makes a handmade piece feel truly complete.
