A before and after of 831 Avalon. The before photo, courtesy of the Wilmington Historical Society archives, looks to be around the 1950's. Does anyone have any history on Caldwell's?

Help us write the next chapter of Wilmington’s history

Wilmington has a story worth telling—from our historic landmarks to the generations of families who built this community. At the Wilmington Historical Society, we’ve made it our mission to keep those stories alive. Now, we’re looking for a leader to help us shape our next chapter.

We are seeking a Volunteer Executive Director—someone with a passion for community, a knack for organization, and a desire to make a lasting impact. Whether you're a retired professional looking to give back, or an energetic leader wanting to champion local culture, your vision can help us grow.

You won’t be doing it alone; you’ll have a dedicated board and passionate volunteers right beside you.

👉 Curious? You don’t need a degree in history—just a heart for Wilmington. Drop us a message here or email us at [email protected] to grab a coffee and chat about what we can build together!
If you or someone you know might be interested, send us a DM or tag them in the comments below.

A recent 2026 picture taken of 708 Avalon Blvd. in Wilmington, Ca. Currently this shop is closed. The shot was taken through the riot gates to get a better view of the space. Some details still exist like the carved out wood on the right side of the display windows and the red tiles. Anyone have any memories of this shop?

Thank you to our member Alan Santana who saw a need and fulfilled it! OUR NEW SIGN. Wilmington branch library built in 1927. Put on the National Register of Historic Places by the Department of the Interior and a Los Angeles Historic Monument. Everyone needs to know that this is a historic building. A big thank you to Pierre at creative indulgence. He can make your imagination become a reality.
