Congratulations
Kate Sowell was selected as the executive director of The Barnabas Connection in October 2019. Kate and her husband, Chris, moved to Wimberley in 2016 with their two children (7-year-old Maci and 6-year-old Westlynn), when Kate began teaching at Danforth Junior High. They are active in the community, volunteering for many activities, including coaching T-ball, leading Girl Scouts, and helping at The Wimberley United Methodist Church. Kate has a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education and holds certificates in both general education and special education. She spent her entire teaching career (13 years) working with students who have what she likes to call “different abilities, not special needs.” This included teaching students in both autism and behavioral classrooms.
Kate has served on several boards, including the Pflugerville Education Foundation and the Wimberley Education Foundation. On these boards, she led the planning of fundraisers and recruitment of donors and sponsorship.
In her free time, Kate enjoys WUMC Wednesday Night family church, spending time with her family outdoors, especially at the Frio River, and spending time with her grandmother, Momo—in Momo’s kitchen.
