🌟 How can a lab detect a tiny compound hidden inside a complex mixture like plasma or herbal extracts? 🤔

The answer lies in a technique called HPLC – High Performance Liquid Chromatography, often described as a “chemical microscope” that separates and identifies substances with incredible precision and speed.

🔬 How does HPLC work?

The sample is introduced through the Injector.
The Pump pushes the solvent (Mobile Phase) under very high pressure.
The sample passes through the Column, packed with a stationary phase.
Each compound interacts differently with the column and moves at a different speed.
When exiting, the Detector records the signal and converts it into a chromatogram with Peaks — each peak represents a specific compound with its Retention Time and concentration.

Column type:
Determines separation strength and accuracy

Mobile Phase:
Must match the compound’s chemistry for clear separation.

Pressure and temperature:
Any change alters retention time and peak shape.

System cleanliness:
Impurities or air bubbles can distort separation.
