Succession planting for the win!

Some parts of the field are definitely starting to look a little tired this time of year, but then there are rows like this one that are just getting started. 🤍

Scabiosa, calendula, forget-me-nots, marigolds, bachelor buttons, ornamental kale and, of course, more sunflowers. There’s still so much goodness coming!

U-Pick is open tonight from 4–8 PM!

MEET THE MAKER • PRESERVED & PINNED BY MARAH

The whole idea of having a little market here at the farm actually started with Marah.

Marah started coming to U-Pick last summer and quickly became one of my regulars. She would come almost every week, picking flowers to take home and preserve for her artwork. As I got to know her and learned more about what she was creating, I thought, she’s supporting my business, and I’d love to find a way to support hers, too.

And that little thought is really what started this whole market idea. 🤍

Marah is a student at UW-Stevens Point and the creator behind Preserved & Pinned. I asked her to tell you a little bit about herself and her work:

“Hello everyone! My name is Marah Gilbert, and I created Preserved & Pinned in 2023 as a creative outlet. Since then, I’ve been crafting meaningful, one-of-a-kind pieces that show off nature’s beauty. From flowers and butterflies to driftwood and moss, I love preserving life’s most beautiful moments.

I’m currently a student at UW-Stevens Point, but the highlight of my week is U-Pick nights at Early Girl to collect beautiful flowers to dry and incorporate in my pieces!”

And now she’ll be bringing some of those pieces right back to the farm where many of the flowers started. How cool is that?

IT’S MARKET WEEK AT EARLY GIRL FLOWER FARM!

This Saturday, September 12, I’m welcoming some really fun local makers + small businesses to the farm!

Come grab a coffee from Rustic Road Coffee, shop pottery, art, candles, jewelry, sweet treats, preserved florals + more — and of course, the flower field will be open for U-Pick! 🌸

U-Pick cups are $25 and everything you need to cut your flowers will be here.

This is my first time putting together a little market like this, and I’m so excited to see it come to life!

Good morning from the flower field!

It’s such a beautiful morning — cloudy skies, a slight breeze, and that quiet, peaceful feeling I love so much.

Mornings have always been my favorite. Hence the Early Girl. 🤍

The field is full of September color and U-pick is open this morning from 8–12. Come wander the rows, pick some flowers, and enjoy a slow Saturday morning with me.

FLORIST STAND FRIDAY… kind of. 🤍

It’s been one of those weeks!

My accountant friends know what month-end means at the day job, and on the flower side, I’ve been harvesting and prepping for two weddings this week.

So, the florist stand didn’t quite get stocked today. Instead, I thought I’d give you a little glimpse of what I’ve been pulling from the field this week.

Buckets and buckets of locally grown flowers headed for some pretty special celebrations.

And there are still plenty of beautiful blooms in the field! U-Pick is open tomorrow, Saturday, from 8–noon. Come out and make yourself a bouquet!

Hello, September 🌻

I read this years ago and loved it so much I saved it:

“Sunflowers face the sun. When they cannot find the sun, they face each other.”

September always starts to feel a little like fall to me, and nothing says late summer/early fall quite like sunflowers.

They’re blooming in the field now, with lots more on the way this month!

LOCAL MAKERS + ARTISTS

I’m putting together a little market at Early Girl Flower Farm on Saturday, September 12th from 8 AM–noon, and I’m looking for a few more local makers and artists who would like to join us!

Rustic Road Coffee will be here, along with a few other vendors already lined up, and I’d love to add a few more unique, locally made offerings — jewelry, pottery, ceramics, glass, fiber art, handmade goods and other creative work.

I’d love for this to be a small, thoughtfully curated market where people can come out, pick some flowers, grab a coffee, shop from local makers and just enjoy a Saturday morning at the farm.

If you’re a local maker who might be interested in setting up or you know someone whose work would be a great fit — please send me a message!

Throwback to last year when we had some of the funnest mornings picking flowers in the rain!

It looks like we might get a little rain this morning, but don’t let that stop you. If you’re willing to brave the weather, I’ll be here! I have a few umbrellas available and a canopy set up, so come hang out with me and pick some flowers.
