Stakeholder Consultation bringing over 30 Stakeholder participants across key sectors of the economy to discuss the proposed legislative framework for fair competition, consumer protection and Trade Remedies. Marking a success and eventful day session!

The Department of External Trade in collaboration with Vanuatu Competition & Consumer Commission, Ministry of Trade, along with PACER Plus conducted a joint project on the Competition & Consumer protection Bill, Fair Trade Protection Bill & Trade Remedies Regulations. These Laws and Regulations will reshape & help in transforming the market economy to ensure that competition is fair, consumer is protected, & Businesses can grow in a transparent & enabling Healthy Business Environment.
Being a member of the WTO since 2012, Vanuatu is ablige to adhere to WTO Rules & Regulations. Trade Remedies Comprising of Anti dumping, Countervailing & Safeguard measures will support to respond to unfair trade practices like dumping or subsidization and how countries like Vanuatu can protect their domestic industries from injury caused by increased imports.
There is currently a Legislative review discussion paper circulated with case studies from New Zealand, Fiji, Australia, PNG, New Caledonia, Solomon Island, Kiribiti, Tonga & Samoa.
One to One consultations were held last week and a stakeholder consultation was help yesterday, 23 June 2025. There is positive engagement and response across stakeholders to support the work and hope to see the impact. These work are currently undertaken to also respond to the government 100 days plan.
