Summers in San Francisco are peak running weather for long distances. It’s cool, cloudy and gorgeous!

Running the Pacifica coastline provides a gorgeous route and view. I suggest starting at the San Pedro Beach and going to the Pier and back for a solid 7 mile run.

If you want to amp it up, you can climb the Peak Trail near Mori’s Point for a nice 300ft climb in under a 1/4 mile.

With two breweries, there’s plenty to do for the day after the run!

Anyone else look like this for the rest of the day after a long run? 🌯🍕🍣

Today we’re giving a big shout out to 🗣 who just finished his first Marathon! 🏃‍♂️

Here’s what Spencer had to say:
“My first marathon was a small renegade race on Catalina Island with family (including my Dad who won the official race a previous year). The course is a beautiful combination of fire roads and trails through the wild and remote interior of Catalina Island. The race immediately started out with a 4-mile climb to 1,000 feet of vert and by the end of it, I couldn’t see any of the other 7 runners in front of me or behind me.

The most grueling part of the race for me was mile 8-to-18, which was a steady and relentless ascent. This leg of the race caused me to cramp up and question my nutrition, which led to some self-talk and swearing. At mile 18, after 2,500+ feet of sun-exposed elevation gain, I began a steep grade climb from 18 to 20, followed by a series of mini climbs known as the “5 fingers”. Upon reaching the highest point on the island, and with only 3 miles left, I was overcome with a feeling of euphoria. The final 3 miles, I struggled to maintain my pace since my legs were toast and the downhill grade had me scrambling to maintain my balance. Eventually, I arrived at the final sprint and could hear the cheers from 25+ family members that were there to support us. I crossed the finish line and immediately embraced my Dad who was elated.”

Huge congrats Spencer! What an awesome time for your first marathon. 👏👏

Anyone else see a place like this and just think, “I wanna go run over that” or am I the only weird one?

Today’s Mettle Tuesday comes from Julia McIntire who crushed her first 50k in 2017.

“This was my first 50k. It was a total of 4 loops around Lake Rebecca. The weather was really tough at first with snow, rain and ice. On the last lap, it deteriorated into unrunnable conditions. It was so brutal, I just wanted to quit. It was truly a sufferfest and a test of my will. The only thing that kept me going was sheer will and having my best friend running the race with me to give me that extra boost. I’m so glad I finished!”

Unfortunately there were no photos from the event because they got to the warmth as fast as possible but still amazing to see!
