Today we’re giving a big shout out to 🗣 who just finished his first Marathon! 🏃♂️
Here’s what Spencer had to say:
“My first marathon was a small renegade race on Catalina Island with family (including my Dad who won the official race a previous year). The course is a beautiful combination of fire roads and trails through the wild and remote interior of Catalina Island. The race immediately started out with a 4-mile climb to 1,000 feet of vert and by the end of it, I couldn’t see any of the other 7 runners in front of me or behind me.
The most grueling part of the race for me was mile 8-to-18, which was a steady and relentless ascent. This leg of the race caused me to cramp up and question my nutrition, which led to some self-talk and swearing. At mile 18, after 2,500+ feet of sun-exposed elevation gain, I began a steep grade climb from 18 to 20, followed by a series of mini climbs known as the “5 fingers”. Upon reaching the highest point on the island, and with only 3 miles left, I was overcome with a feeling of euphoria. The final 3 miles, I struggled to maintain my pace since my legs were toast and the downhill grade had me scrambling to maintain my balance. Eventually, I arrived at the final sprint and could hear the cheers from 25+ family members that were there to support us. I crossed the finish line and immediately embraced my Dad who was elated.”
Huge congrats Spencer! What an awesome time for your first marathon. 👏👏
