Recently, I had the opportunity to visit a backyard fish farm that had been abandoned by its owner due to a failed initial attempt at rearing catfish. The farm, which once showed promise, had been left idle for months after the owner experienced significant losses from purchasing low-quality fingerlings. Poor fingerlings led to high mortality rates, and the owner, disheartened by the outcome, gave up on the venture.
As I walked through the farm, it was clear that the setup had great potential. The infrastructure was still intact, but the ponds were empty, and it was evident that the owner had once put in a lot of effort. After assessing the situation, I engaged the owner in a conversation to understand the challenges he had faced. It became apparent that the primary issue was the substandard fingerlings he had bought, which could not survive or grow as expected, leading to the collapse of his efforts.
I provided him with a detailed check-up on the farm, from the water quality to the overall environment, which all seemed conducive to fish farming if handled properly. After educating him about the importance of sourcing high-quality fingerlings, implementing better feeding strategies, and maintaining proper water conditions, he seemed motivated again. We discussed the steps to relaunch the project with a fresh approach and a focus on quality control.
To my delight, the owner decided to give it another shot. He restocked the farm with 200 high-quality juvenile this time, ensuring they were from MY FARM TNA FISH .With renewed energy and knowledge, the farm is now operational again, and he’s committed to monitoring the health and growth of the fingerlings more closely to avoid past.
