This passage is from my latest book, When Nothing Makes Sense: Finding God in the Gap Between Prayer & Answer, and I want to share the story of what led me to write this piece.

Last summer, I went on my first solo-trip to Saint Remy de Provence, a small town in the countryside of France, a place where God led me in mysterious ways, a part of the world where Vincent Van Gogh spent a few years living at a monastery as he was battling his mental health challenges.

I entered the room in which he slept in, I peeked out of the window he looked out of, I paced through the gardens he walked across, I sat in the church in which he prayed, I observed the landscape where he wrote tons of letters to his brother—expressing the ache in his heart, the frustrations in his spirit, the chaos in his mind.

Somehow, I felt his lasting energy there. As though his presence never quite left.

But I also felt a strange feeling of borrowed grief—the realization that Vincent Van Gogh died feeling worthless, as though his art didn’t matter, believing he wasn’t good enough.

The irony is that his work is the most celebrated art today.

The art didn’t change—it was the world’s ability to see it that did.

It was after that experience that I made a promise to myself—to measure my success by my devotion, not the outward “success”, so that I can enjoy the fruits of my labor while I’m still alive.

Despite our world changing by the second, something I really do believe is that the artists of this generation are truly lucky. To have the platforms to share our voices, to have spaces to connect with like-minded individuals, to have tools that enable us to express ourselves authentically and on our own terms.

Sure, the algorithms are constantly changing, the definition of “art” seems undefined, but I don’t believe the cards are stacked against us. If anything, we are blessed that our art can reach eyes across the world, instantly, and that we can touch souls, feel it’s impact, and witness how our creations transform the world we live in, moments after we release it.

a little excerpt from a much longer substack essay on why being boujee is actually spiritual 🤸

on desire, luxury, wholeness, and why enjoying beautiful things from a place of soul alignment is very different than chasing them from ego/lack… & why doing the inner work FIRST is paramount in holding that abundance without being lost in it, without making your identity out of it, without losing your purity inside of it.

most people who feel called to something great will eventually talk themselves out of it. not because the calling wasn’t real— but because the world makes it so easy to go back to what’s familiar, safe, and understood.

this essay is for the ones who are serious about not doing that.

it’s about what choosing a soul-aligned life actually costs—and the three questions that will show you whether you’re truly willing to keep saying yes.

imagine walking into every room, every relationship, every conversation as exactly who you are. no performance, no mask, no editing yourself down to make others comfortable.

we all know who we are behind closed doors. and yet we wear a different face for our family, our friends, our coworkers, our partners—and then wonder why we don’t feel fully seen or understood or why the love never quite lands the way we hoped.

the most courageous thing you will ever do isn’t a career leap or a creative risk. it’s the moment you remember who you are and refuse to be anyone else.

what if you paused for a moment and noticed how many of these are already true for you?

your prayers aren’t always answered in the way you expected. sometimes they look like a conversation, a song, a feeling of peace you didn’t have last year, a door that opened when another closed.

drop one answered prayer in the comments that you almost missed, or something else you’d add to this list. 🤍

before you scroll or swipe—I invite you to take a real pause on each frame. read slowly, let every word land in your body, not just your mind.

your prayers are not being ignored. they are not delayed. they are being answered in ways your human mind wasn’t expecting.
