This 14x6.5 segmented shell Whitwood snare drum is a beast! The combination of these woods both look and sound superb. I couldn't help cranking it for some delicious DnB.

The shell is 11mm thick straight through and has 30° inner bearing edges and rounded outer bearing edges top and bottom.

We outfit our snares with a Trick GS007 throw, premium chrome hardware and Pearl Puresound wires. This snare was recorded with and is currently outfitted with Remo Coated Ambassador on the batter side and Remo Hazy on the resonant side.

This video was recorded with two SM57s (top and bottom of snare), a Beta52A (kick) and a Rode NT2A. The audio has minimal mixing, no compression and no dampening on the drums.

Though this is relatively low tuning for this snare, it still sings beautifully and is lovely and sensitive under the sticks. I felt like having some fun with buzzes and showcasing the gorgeous overtones of this drum so I hope you enjoy it. An added bonus with the camphor laurel segments is the lovely scent the wood gives off. It's very relaxing and the fact it's naturally antibacterial is just an added bonus 😂

Jeff Whitwood is a retired tool maker who made the first Whitwood Drum in 2018 as a Christmas present for his son, Paul. He’s been making drums ever since.

Paul Whitwood recently completed his Bachelor of Jazz and Improvisation at the University of Melbourne and can be heard playing at venues throughout Victoria.

Together this father/son duo are bringing you the finest handcrafted drums made from ethically sourced and reclaimed woods.
