Titanic Dream Our mission is to build the best possible sinkable Titanic model. www.TitanicDream.com Titanic Dream took roots in our little North Carolina mountain town.

Hello, we really appreciate you visiting our shop and checking out the products we're creating for you. A neighbor had called just before the holidays. He was looking for help to find a Titanic gift for his grandson. After a long and disappointing search, Titanic Dream was eventually born. As a former Navy sailor with a love for history and all-things-nautical, I was enthusiastic about this projec

t from the start. There have been lots of challenges, lots of trial and error. But there's always been that strange and surprising bit of luck that shows up just in time to keep things moving forward. It took over a year and a half to get from idea (and "how the heck do we do this?") to opening our company doors. Along the way, we worked with a small team of local designers and engineers, technical wizards, and very enthusiastic model ship fans! A big thanks to this wonderfully talented team. We're proud to design, engineer, and make our products right here in North Carolina. Bear with us as we grow. We have some very exciting ideas for future products, and we KNOW you are going to love them! Wait until you see the next edition (wink😉). We're doing our best to keep prices as low as possible so that more people can enjoy them. You'll be glad to know that you're purchasing an incredibly rare and really special model set that will last a long time if cared for. Thanks again for supporting us and taking some time to read a little about who we are. Fair Winds and Following Seas...

We were recently asked how the new T3 hull sinks compared to the previous model, so I'd figured I'd share the answer here as well.

Compared to the previous model, the T3 sinks much slower (which is more satisfying in my opinion). The previous models sat lower in the water, which meant the bow would flood really quick. This model sits much higher in the water.

But the primary goal of the hull modifications was to improve the physics.

The previous model had a tendency to list to the side. The T3 is perfectly balanced and sits upright in the water. You can poke the smoke stacks to roll the ship to the side, and it'll pop straight back up. Archimedes sure knew what he was talking about.

Finally, the previous model had a tendency to nosedive a little bit – the bow was always a little lower than the stern. The updated T3 is even and flat. You can give the model a push from behind and it'll sail through the water without nosediving. It's really fun.

The year is 1912. 114 years ago today. The RMS Oceanic is on a normal Transatlantic route from Southhampton to New York. But this can hardly be called a normal day.

Just one month prior, 1,514 people died when the Oceanic's sister ship sank. The Titanic had struck an iceberg 370 miles southeast of Newfoundland, and descended catastrophically into the frigid North Atlantic.

The rescue mission had long been called off, but tragedy was still thick on the sea air. And as the Oceanic approached the site where its sister perished, a ghost appeared on the horizon: A lifeboat.

In the minds of a crewman or two, there was a flash of hope as the first half of the word "lifeboat" bounced around the bridge: "Life. Life. Life."

But reality set in just as fast. This was not a lifeboat, but a hearse. The Collapsible A had indeed saved the lives of many, discharging survivors onto the Carpathia on April 15th, 1912. But the dead remained.

“Two sailors could be seen," recalled one Oceanic passenger. "Their hair bleached by exposure to salt and sun, and a third figure wearing evening dress lying flat on the benches.”

The crew of the Oceanic collected the dead that were delivered to them by wind, currents, and fate. They wrapped the bodies with dignity, and buried the three at sea.

The lifeboat, on the other hand, was lifted onto the deck of the Oceanic and brought to land.

To some folks the Titanic is kind of a silly obsession. Well if that's the case, I have a silly obsession within the silly obsession. My obsession is to create the best possible sinkable Titanic model.

I'm currently on T3, which is the third iteration of design. The T3 really fine-tuned the physics – I have learned a lot about Archimedean buoyancy in the process.

I also completely rebuilt the internal mechanisms from the ground up, creating a much smoother operation.

This is a passion project, but it's also my full-time job. My wife and I run the business, and it generates just enough to support the family.

But I'm going to keep iterating and build the best dang sinkable Titanic that modern technology can produce.

Because that's my silly obsession.

If you want to help fund that future, you can pick up one of the T3's on our website TitanicDream.com.

Or just stick around and see where this whole thing takes us. It'll be pretty cool.
