Lucy Parsons Center

Lucy Parsons Center A collectively-run radical bookstore and community center located in Jamaica Plain, MA. We are run by an organizing collective and our volunteers.

The Lucy Parsons Center is an independent, non-profit, radical bookstore and community space. We are kept alive by dedicated activists who contribute their time to keeping this project on its feet. We are open from 12:30pm to 6pm from Monday through Friday, and from 1pm to 5pm on Sundays. We are occasionally also available at other times: email to find out if we're open at [email protected]. Bookstore: The Lucy Parsons Center has a well-stocked bookstore with new and used books and more than 200 magazines, newspapers, and journals, covering every wing of the progressive movement. We also carry posters, stickers, cards, and pins. There are low-priced used and bargain books in addition to new titles, Spanish-language books, and children's books. Meeting Space, Info Space: The Center offers its space free to local activist groups for meetings and events. We also receive, display, and distribute dozens of newsletters, events notices, and flyers from projects and organizations locally and around the world. In-Store Events: We draw on the many outstanding activists in the Boston area, as well as visiting progressives, to offer lectures, readings, discussions, poetry, puppetry, music, movies, and more on a wide range of issues of current relevance. Book Tables: We bring information into the community by setting up book tables and displays at conferences, demonstrations, and events around Boston. Contact us if you would like a book table at your event.

“Swivel & Bite Puppet Theatre” Presents: Swivel & Bite
In which a pair of adorable antennae listen for the harsh dispatches of this world’s crumbling radio. As the curtains draw closer to the evening’s full darkness, what do we do with ourselves? Let’s look to the safety-pin, the tornado, and the weasel. Maybe they’ll know something we don’t.
Show is pay what you want!
Thursday 7/9 at 7:30 @ Allston Abbey
From the organizers: We developed the show on a farm in Minnesota, listening to the land and our friends recounting their experiences of the federal occupation of Minneapolis. The show combines puppetry, dance, and a classic leftist skill share in a community space. We’re excited to share what we’ve learned.

Attending a New Member Training is the first step to being an LPC member and getting to run the shop on your own and getting involved in all the ways LPC builds local leftist community. Come celebrate the release of Stone Wharf by Lee Kathryn Hodge!
Sunday 6/14, 7-9pm @ the LPC

In her debut full-length collection, poet Lee Kathryn Hodge captures complexities and contradictions: her interpersonal brush burns from family, friends, and lovers coexist with the uneasy chill of solitude; her lightly sardonic observations slip effortlessly into deep empathy; her worn-down towns spill out into a retreating landscape.

Lee Hodge is from Virginia. Her work has appeared in Granta, Puerto del Sol, TriQuarterly, Black Warrior Review, Thrush, and The Tulane Review. Her debut collection Stone Wharf is out with Akinoga press. She currently teaches writing at Boston College.

Georgia Lavigne is from Vermont. Their work appears in Lit Hub, Black Warrior Review, Hunger Mountain and disappears in direct sunlight.
