One of the most memorable running backs of the Nebraska championship era, Green helped the Huskers win **two National Championships** before an outstanding NFL career that included **five Pro Bowl selections** and induction into the **Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame**.

Saturday reminded us exactly why we started doing these events.

Hundreds of fans, spanning multiple generations, came out for the first Blackshirt Legacy event to celebrate 10 former Nebraska Blackshirts representing decades of Husker football.

There were autographs. There were photos. There were plenty of old football stories.

But those weren’t the moments that stayed with us the most.

Several of our players had family come out to support them. The families of Titus Adams, Mike Knox, Mike Kennedy, Jeff Hansen and Kenny Wilhite were there — children, grandchildren and spouses getting to experience the day right alongside them.

And one of the most rewarding moments of the entire event was watching a grandfather realize that his grandchildren had shown up to surprise and support him.

That moment had nothing to do with an autograph.

It had everything to do with why these events matter.

For a couple of hours, generations came together.

Fans had an opportunity to meet players they watched decades ago. Parents introduced their children to names they grew up cheering for. Grandchildren got to see strangers walk up to their grandfather, shake his hand and tell him about a game, a play or a memory they still carry with them all these years later.

And former teammates had another opportunity to sit together, tell stories, laugh and reconnect.

Football may be what initially brings everyone through the door, but community is what makes these days special.

These men gave Nebraska fans memories that have lasted for generations. Being able to create an opportunity for those fans to say thank you — while also giving the players and their families an opportunity to experience that appreciation together — is incredibly rewarding.

The autographs eventually get put away.

The photos get framed.

But the stories, relationships, reunions and memories created along the way are what last.

To every fan and family who came out Saturday, thank you.

And to our 10 Blackshirts and their families, thank you for trusting us with the opportunity to bring everyone together.

This is what Husker Signings is about.

And this is why we do it.

What a day. ❤️

Today was about more than football and more than autographs. It was about community, brotherhood and bringing generations together.

The support for our Blackshirts — and for the Elkhorn community — was incredible.

Thank you to everyone who came out, shared a story, shook a hand and helped make our first Blackshirt event something truly special.

This is exactly why we do this.

Tomorrow morning, 10 Blackshirts representing generations of Nebraska football will sit together in one place in Omaha.

Think about that for a moment.

Different decades. Different teams. Different stories.

Men who played when the Blackshirt tradition was still being built. Men who helped define it. Men who carried it forward for the generations that followed.

**Mike Kennedy. Jerry Murtaugh. Tom Ruud. Bret Clark. Mike Knox. Danny Noonan. Jeff Hansen. Kenny Wilhite. Titus Adams. Tony Felici.**

Getting 10 former players from across these generations together doesn't happen very often.

And there is no guarantee it ever happens quite like this again.

That's what makes tomorrow about more than autographs.

It's an opportunity for a father to introduce his son to someone he watched play decades ago. For a younger Husker fan to meet the men behind a tradition they've grown up hearing about. For former players from different eras to sit beside one another, reconnect and share stories.

And for all of us to remember that Nebraska football history isn't just something preserved in record books and old highlights.

**THE BLACKSHIRT ISN’T GIVEN. IT’S EARNED.**

For the first time in years, **Mike Kennedy — one of the Original Blackshirts — will make a rare public appearance.**

But this event isn't about one player.

When we put together **Blackshirt Legacy**, we wanted 10 men who could tell the story of one of college football's greatest traditions across generations.

🏈 **Mike Kennedy** — One of the Original Blackshirts. Where the tradition begins.

🏈 **Jerry Murtaugh** — 1970 All-American and Big Eight Player of the Year. A leader from Nebraska's first national championship team.

🏈 **Tom Ruud** — Nebraska Football Hall of Famer and one of the great linebackers of the 1970s.

🏈 **Jeff Hansen** — Forever connected to one of Memorial Stadium's defining moments: the late Billy Sims fumble in Nebraska's 17–14 victory over Oklahoma in 1978.

🏈 **Tony Felici** — Two-time First-Team All-Big Eight defensive end who helped carry the Blackshirt tradition into the early 1980s.

🏈 **Bret Clark** — Consensus First-Team All-American defensive back and one of Nebraska's elite defenders of the 1980s.

🏈 **Mike Knox** — Nebraska Football Hall of Famer, captain and a symbol of the toughness of Nebraska's 1980s linebacking corps.

🏈 **Danny Noonan** — 1986 First-Team All-American and Big Eight Athlete of the Year. One of the most dominant defensive linemen of his era.

🏈 **Kenny Wilhite** — All-Big Eight defensive back and ball hawk who carried the tradition into the early 1990s.

🏈 **Titus Adams** — An All-Big 12 defensive lineman representing a new generation of Blackshirts in the 2000s.

**Ten players. Five decades. One tradition.**

This Saturday, all 10 come together in Omaha for **BLACKSHIRT LEGACY**.
