Large personal collection of African art collected in the early 1980s is up for sale. This collection that we collected from Zaire (now the Congo), Kenya and Tanzania consists of 100s of masks, sculptures, pipes, stools, headrests, fetishes, weapons, jewelry, textiles, and weapons. Various tribes such as the Luba, Songye, Bembe, Chokwe, Makonde, Samburu, Goma tribes are represented. We have had the art in our possession for close to 50 years and much of the art was old when wee purchased it from artists, dealers, tribes people. This is an art that represents so many dying cultures and customs. We would love to find a home for the entire collection as we have moved to Costa Rica and are living in the cloud forest which would not be the best environment for this art.
We presently have it all in cold storage in SW Florida and are considering offers.
