First market for a little while, always enjoy the vibe of particularly their cathedral settings. Nice to be back selling face to face, having great chats with customers and other creative business stallholders. Great day, thanks Sheffield!

🌸Elderflower Cordial🌸

It's elderflower foraging season and they won't be around for long. Elderflower is nice and easy to forage for, being fairly prolific even in urban areas and also straightforward to identify. Once you know what you're looking for, you'll notice it everywhere!

We made a batch of cordial last week. 25 Elderflower heads, water, sugar and lemons. Heated, cooled, left to steep for a couple of days and strained into bottles. There's a certain satisfaction in gathering AND making your own food. I'm collecting more on my early morning bike rides.
Do you forage for elderflower? What are your favourite recipes?

Remember to follow safe and responsible foraging practices

Thankyou, Camp Quirky!

So good to be back after a long three years. We had a real mix of weather, getting set up in that wind was a challenge but the Saturday sunshine was glorious

The beeswax wrap workshops went down a treat again and I really enjoyed giving my talk on zero waste in the sustainability tent, it was great to meet and chat with so many of you. Hopefully there will only be one year until the next one this time 🤞

I've got some very exciting events lined up this month

Starting this weekend with at Walton Hall Gardens near Warrington. It's my first time at this event and there looks to be plenty of exciting and yummy things on offer. This is a free event

Next Weekend, I'm so glad to be finally back at Camp Quirky. My stall will be open throughout the festival and I'm bringing my beeswax wrap making workshop again - it was so busy last time that we've got two sessions on offer this year. I'll also be delivering a talk on sustainable living habits. Tickets are now sold out for this event - if you're going, pop by and say hello or come and join in!

I'm also thrilled to be back at Sefton Park Palm House for spring market. I'll be there for the full weekend, from Friday afternoon through to Sunday. I absolutely love this event, it's definitely the most beautiful place I've had the pleasure to set up my stall and there are always so many gorgeous handmade things on offer. Not to be missed!

UPCYCLING

Some pieces of furniture I recently gave a refresh to fit in with new decor

These are all pieces I've had for years and originally bought second hand, like the vast majority of my furniture.
A tin of recycled chalky furniture paint, some pieces of curtain fabric and a wallpaper sample and a creative weekend afternoon later, I had them all beautifully transformed

The paint colour is Deep Delta. upcycles old paint for walls and furniture and can be bought locally at or and online in their Etsy shop

The drawers are stencilled using a reusable furniture stencil and leftover paint from the colour I've painted the walls in the room

I'm really pleased with these, I loved bringing new life to them in a cheap and low-waste way and now have some bespoke pieces that I created myself. Do you upcycle your furniture? Have you completed any upcycling projects recently?

Homemade Citrus Cleaner

Do you make your own household cleaners? This is a great way to get some more use out of citrus peels before they go into the compost and also a great natural and chemical free way to clean your home.

Fill a jar with citrus peels and top up to cover with white vinegar (I get my white vinegar from my local refill shop). Close the lid and leave in a sunny place, the kitchen windowsill is ideal, for 2-3 weeks to infuse. Strain the vinegar into a spray bottle and add the same amount of water to the bottle so you have 1 part citrus vinegar to 1 part water. Voila. Homemade cleaner.

As well as adding antibacterial properties, the citrus adds a nice scent and the cleaner doesn't smell much of vinegar at all with the added citrus.

This is a fantastic example of my favourite zero waste rule - use what you have
What homemade cleaners do you use?
What other uses for citrus peels do you love?
