LANDSBOROUGH SILVER

Albion Antiques will be bringing to the Melbourne Fair, Caufield racecourse, thur 30th July – 2nd august, a part silver dinner service purchased with public subscriptions in 1862 for 500 pounds for William Landsborough (explorer) from private friends and admirers of the colony Victoria. On every piece of silver is engraved the Lansborough crest, a durk held in a bloody hand (the Landsboroughs are the Mcclamrock clan).



William Landsborough was sent out to lead one of 4 search parties to find Burke & Wills who were missing in 1861. In the process he became the first man to cross Australia from the Gulf of Carpentaria to Melbourne, not successful in the original search. The trip enabled him to discover vast areas of good grazing lands to be opened up at later stages for settlements. His achievements had placed him in the company of some of the top early Australian explorers.



Also available will be in good condition a daguerreotype of his first wife Caroline h. Raine in a leather case

CENTRAL QUEENSLAND CARRIERS UNION PLAQUE

At the Melbourne Fair 30 th July to 2 nd August at caufield racecourse will be a significant piece of Queensland History , available for purchase from Albion Antiques a bronze carriers union plaque. The Carriers Union was formed in Barcaldine Queensland in 1887 with 100 members. The town was over supplied at the time with teamsters who had lost work as a result of the expansion of the Central Railway. The Carriers Union had done a deal with the shearers and the Central Labourers union not to load any wool wagons unless they displayed the Carriers Union Plaque attached to their wool wagon.



The Carriers Union, The Shearers Union, and the Central Labourers Union were forced to go back to work after the disastrous Queensland shearers strike in 1891. And what was to become the Queensland Trade Union, and later the Australian Trade Union was formed in 1892 and was a pivicol moment in the Labour Party History and considered the foundation stone of the future Trade Union moment
