GET YOUR HOME BACK WITH WARMTH AND COMFORT THIS WINTER

Winter is the time for good food and warmth; a good chat beside the fire turns a house into a "Home". www.thebraaiman.co.za 072 7559009 - Broadacres shopping center - Cedar Rd Fourways. Best Advice - Best Value

FIVE HOT TIPS WHEN CONSIDERING A NEW FIREPLACE
1. The objective is to gain heat. as much as possible for the wood coal or gas you use.
2. Position is key. The correct position can warm more than just one room and with heat rising you can benefit from Upstairs areas gaining indirect heat.
3. Get your space back and make sure it works for you.
4. Choose a unit that has longevity of service. Over spec the KW heat output and you can run the unit at idling speed. Under spec it and you will run the unit flat out all day and not get the desired longevity from it. Tiles and Cement flooring ad to your requirement on extra KW.
5. Choose your Retailer and installer carefully. Price is not an option when looking for a professional installation with guarantees on Workmanship and waterproofing.

FIREPLACE JARGON. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS WINTER!
1. CLOSED COMBUSTION & OPEN COMBUSTION – A fireplace with a door that closes. A traditional fireplace that is open and has no door.
2. MULITFUEL – A fireplace that is able to burn wood, anthracite (coal) and compressed pellets.
3. CONVECTION UNIT – A fireplace that has a double wall or air chamber that allows for heat circulation of the air in the room. Usually a lower Kw output that heats a bigger area.
4. kW OUTPUT – a measure of heat performance based on Radiant heat from the unit and usually directly related to the size of the Fireplace and the combustion box.
5. RADIANT HEAT & RADIANT HEAT WAVE – The reflective heat generated by a fireplace from the surface of the unit - The heat wave generated by a fireplace through the glass projecting into the room or space. Usually pe*******on is improved with a Vermiculite lining in the firebox.
6. VERMICULITE LINING – Made from a Compressed mineral that looks like bricks & it reflects heat and its energy pushing a wave deep into a room through the glass of a fireplace. Great for big areas.
7. AMBIANT TEMPERATURE – The average temperature in the room or space.
8. CUBIC METER COVERAGE – The length, width and height of a room or space. Standard rooms in SA are usually 2.4m high so divide cubic metres by 2.4 should give you an indication of square meter average.
9. FLUES & INSULATED FLUES – Fireplace pipe found in different diameters depending on the exhaust opening of the fireplace. A flue with a double wall allowing for a thermal barrier between the inner layer (intense exhaust heat) and the outer layer (cool to touch) that would typically be pressed through the ceiling boards and or roofing.
10. RETROFIT – Removing and old unit and building in a new fireplace to replace it. Usually involves small scale construction work. Can be freestanding unit in this space as well.

This information is based on general knowledge accumulated over years of dealing with manufacturers, installers and customers alike. Hope this is helpful to you.
