It’s Tidy Twosday — celebrating the sound, style and attitude of the legendary Tidy Two label. 💿🔥

Today’s feature is a single Tidy Two 12" record, with a different release on each side:

🎧 Side A: Lee Haslam – The Power

Released on Tidy Two in 2021, The Power showcases Lee Haslam’s harder, more trancy side. At around 139 BPM, it delivers the driving, uplifting energy that became synonymous with the Tidy Two sound — built for peak-time dancefloors and serious hard-trance sessions.

⚡ Side B: Yusef Kifah – Energy (Feel What I’m Feeling)

Also released in 2021, Energy marked Malaysian artist Yusef Kifah’s debut on Tidy Two. Inspired by the idea of spreading energy, positivity and forward momentum during the difficult period of the pandemic, the 142 BPM track combines uplifting melodies with a tougher hard-trance edge. It was particularly meaningful for Kifah, having grown up listening to Tidy artists such as Technikal, Nicholson and NG Rezonance.

💿 NOW PLAYING: Pornorama feat. Louise Carver – I’d Say Yes (Leliwa)

Here’s a proper piece of South African dance music history.

Originally released in the early 2000s, Pornorama’s “Leliwa” was transformed into I’d Say Yes when Cape Town singer-songwriter Louise Carver wrote and recorded the vocals for the track. The combination of an infectious house groove and Carver’s distinctive vocal turned it into a major crossover moment.

The track found a serious audience on the South African dance scene, eventually reaching #1 on the 5FM Top 40. It also crossed into the international club circuit, appearing on European dance charts in 2002.

The vinyl is packed with the kind of mixes that made these records so special for DJs — including the Original Vocal Mix, Instrumental Mix, Sapphirecut Club Mix, Sapphirecut Dub, Lee-Cabrera Main Vocal Mix and Afterhours Dub.

For anyone who remembers the golden era of South African house, this is more than just a record — it’s a little piece of the soundtrack of the time. 🇿🇦🎶

💿 NOW PLAYING: Lenny Kravitz – Black Velveteen

Released in 1999 as the final single from Lenny Kravitz’s 5 album, Black Velveteen was one of those fascinating moments when rock collided head-on with late-’90s club culture. The original already had a strong electronic edge, with Kravitz himself describing its hypnotic bassline and techno influence.

But it was on vinyl that things got particularly interesting.

Virgin handed the track to some serious names from the dance world, resulting in a double 12" remix package featuring Roger Sanchez (S-Man), StoneBridge and Rick Pier O’Neil (RPO). Across seven mixes, Black Velveteen was transformed from Kravitz’s psychedelic funk-rock into deep, driving late-’90s house built for the club.

The crossover worked too — contemporary dance press was already charting Black Velveteen in UK clubs in late 1999, while Billboard later highlighted the extensive club remix campaign surrounding the track.

It’s a great snapshot of an era when major rock and pop releases regularly found a second life on the dancefloor — and when names like Roger Sanchez and StoneBridge could completely reinvent a record for a 2am crowd.

Then there's the heavyweight. Originally released in 1994, For An Angel became one of trance's defining anthems, with the 1998 E-Werk remix helping propel it to legendary status. Its iconic melody and emotional simplicity influenced an entire generation of trance producers.
