Heritage Flowers 🇿🇦

This month’s bunches will showcase our indigenous blooms!

Do any surprise you?

Our King Protea

Representing: transformation, strength, diversity and unity

This is our resilient National flower, which can rejuvenate after fire due to its underground lignotuber, which stays safely hidden beneath the soil and allows the plant to completely regenerate after a blaze!

Watsonia

Representing: resilience, rebirth, and survival

They are famously adapted to germinate rapidly right after a veldfire!

Freesias

Representing: friendship, trust and thoughtfulness

Famous for their sweet perfume, native freesias ramp up their fragrance in the late afternoon and evening to attract their preferred nocturnal pollinators!

Pin Cushion Proteas

Representing: transformation, resilience and creative energy

Pincushion seeds are irresistible to ants which carry the seeds underground. There they eat the treat, effectively planting and protecting the seed from predators and fires

Blushing Bride

Representing: love and new beginnings

Native to the Franschhoek Valley. Young French Huguenot farmers would court their maidens, giving them a flower at each opportunity!
